RE: Gopher Football: Suspensions and now a Boycott
Quote:In a statement read by senior wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky, the players said: "The boycott will remain effective until due process is followed and suspensions for all 10 players involved are lifted."

Then the university responded with:
Quote:"The reality is that not everyone can have all of the facts, and unfortunately the University cannot share more information due to federal laws regarding student privacy."

I think someone is behind something to make the NIU bowl-streak alive! Get ready to suit up against Washington State -- Carey's going to have a chance to completely redeem himself, with a win! :)

Actually, I'd be shocked if Minnesota actually Does back out due to the players. It's not like they're going to the Potato Bowl playing Idaho or something. And the university will, I imagine, bargain with them to not give them straight up facts but work with the players accused and give enough outlined info to have the players give in once we get closer to their bowl-time.

With a $2.85 mil payout i'm sure those Gophers are going to fold, esp when they see they get their choice of Beats headphones or an Oakley watch!

Yes, true. I think that's going to be the tipping point. "We never leave a man behind, when falsely accused! .... Wait, what? An Oakley watch? Headphones? Okay, okay... the university is right, this is a private matter. We'll deal with this after we get our stu--- after we go to that game."

"Due Process" that liitle thing in the constitution university administrators are not too enthused about. Due Process is a problem on many campuses.

If Minnesota boycotts the National Funding Holiday Bowl, Northern Illinois would be the replacement team based on the Huskies' APR (Academic Progress Rate) ranking, sources tell ESPN.

.... but, in University rules, it's more strict. And with the players knowing they'll be beat without the guys + frustrated about the legal call -- look out. Can't wait to see what happens. Sucks it's a B1G team. Would rather see Washington State in the mess, as that's more fitting to them. But then again, I don't want another MAC vs B1G bowl game going on, as I'm used to that 1st month of college football!

NIU should not be in a bowl game with a 5 - 7 record, let alone the Holiday Bowl. Do we really want to see a slaughter like the team experienced last year? The other issue is, do the Washington State fans who purchased their entire allocation of tickets want to see their team play a 5-7 MAC team. If NIU does play, i can see ESPN cameras panning an empty stadium, just like those cold November Thursday night MAC games.

These sources ESPN quote are correct.
NIU is next in line. But, that does not mean they accept an invite.
Not counting today or game day itself, anyone who plays in this game has ten days to get ready and that includes travel.
And the 2,000,000 plus payout? The rest of the league get'S a piece just like the Cotton Bowl.

No.

There's nothing Rod can do to redeem himself for this abortion of a season. Going into this season if you asked most people if they would have been happy with a 6-7 season they would have said no. That doesn't change now.

If it does happen and NIU wins you'll definitely have the "LOL thought he couldn't win a bowl game!" crowd but that doesn't change the fact he has come up short numerous times in big games. Winning a game to go 6-7 can't wash off the stink he has on himself.

NIU will get 70 dropped on them. This is a horrible horrible thing to possibly happen.

How much is left after the expenses to get there along with the MAC share? If it's $1M I'm sure STF wouldn't mind the ass whooping but why go make us look bad for $1M? I know the state is messed up but is it that worth it?

At this point it doesn't matter. It's not about deserving. This situation will never happen in NIU's favor ever again.

No one outside of NIU and Boise state fans remember last year's stomping. Bowl games are exhibitions and NIU desperately needs money.

Beg to differ. I've had several people bring that up to me this month and last during discussions of NIU going to a bowl game. NIU really made a name for itself with that performance.

Completely agree...and even some of those fans don't remember and/care.
