Recruiting So Far
Looks like the conference is doing well so far with recruits. Really impressed with Memphis so far. Their top 3-4 recruits are strong in the right areas: OT, CB and Safety.

RE: Recruiting So Far
ECU has added strength exactly where it is needed.
Coach Mo has added some SERIOUS talent to our lacking Defensive Line.
JUCO
DE - Tyree Owens (6'5" 295lbs)
Offers from: Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, USC, South Carolina, Kentucky, Mississippi State, among others.
DE - Blake McClain (6'4" 280lbs)
Offers from: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, WVU, UNC, among others.
Not to mention we just snagged a HS RB with 22 offers - many P5.
Also, a HS WR with 34 offers - including Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida, Louisville, Tennessee, among others.
Coach Mo is KILLING it on the trail.

As much as I am not a fan of Mo, this recruiting class looks to be pretty darn good.
Now, I just hope he can coach like he recruits.

The Tigers picked up three-star linebacker J.J. Russell (a LB formally committed to Miss St and JC DB's junior-college defensive backs Marcus Green and Tito Windham (both formally of OK). Memphis lost a three star QB to UT-Knoxville, but in the mix for other talented QB's.

RE: Recruiting So Far
Credit for this post goes to BoneyardBanter poster XFlat regarding the 247 rankings and how the change...
"Since Monday, the following changes:
John Spellacy (OL) (6-2/280) was .8199 (3-stars), today he's .7917 (2-stars).
Blake Proehl (WR) (6-2/175) was .7998 (3-stars), today he's .7776 (2-stars).
Ja-Quane Nelson (DL) (6-3/260) was .7998 (3-stars), today he's .7850 (2-stars)
Blake McClain (DE) (6-4/280) was .8656 (3-stars), today he's .7783 (2-stars)
When you factor in McClain who was .8656 less than 12 months ago and is now considerably lower well, having East Carolina rated with a strong recruiting class just isn't allowed. At this time of the year, after the season is over, this close to signing day, why the change in ratings??
And yes, I'm tracking the ratings index on a daily basis -- again, why the last minute changes to guys seen all season long and with strong ratings just 2-3 days ago. System is rigged fellas. Rigged in a big-time way."

How about going by a different recruiting service?

I don't think that's a good idea for ranking some of the JUCO's since they usually don't have updated profiles on all the sites. Like Blake McCain seems to only have a rivals page for when he was coming from HS. If the 247 algorithm is pulling from something else than that, then maybe he's being undervalued from a date retrieval perspective.

One thing that hurts is Scout weighs their recruiting rankings directly to subscriber numbers. ECU's Scout site is pretty much dormant. ESPN also factors in and they do very little in recruiting outside the top 150.

The recruting services is a rigged system for sure. It's much more about exposure to them than it is true talent. Don't get me wrong though, a guys whose a high 5 star is probably that way for a reason.
Heard Rick Neuheisel talking about it on Full Ride. He has seen while coaching a guy would be offered by Oregon and USC be a 4 star and when he committed to UCLA he'd drop to a 3 star. Same scenario when he was at Colorado but probably worse.

247 makes the mistake of posting a graph of a recruit's rating over time. Tyrie Cleveland shot up last year whenever he decommitted from us and signed with Florida, and D'Eriq King and Courtney Lark both plummeted whenever they decommitted from TCU and signed with us.
It's shameless.

Best path is to trust your HC. He knows what he needs and chooses the best kids to fill that need. That being said, would be nice to get a 4* or 5* once in a while i.e. like Oliver at UH. None on the 247 lists.

Would be nice but more likely to see a unicorn on campus than a 5 star recruit. In 2016 there were a grand total of 25 Five Star recruits spread out between the 128 FBS recruiting classes of a couple thousand signees and so far in 2017 there are 20 recruits that have graded out as Five Star.
For most of us if we could simply have a solid class of 3 stars with maybe three or four 4 stars it would change our performance level significantly
