More than 1MM per year. You can officially cross him off the "potential future NIU head coach" list.

not necessarily. it'd be a long shot now, but coaches are sometimes willing to take a hit financially to move up, tho at this point he could probably slide into a AAC or lower level BIG program, no problem.
I don't think it's a long shot at all. Matt is a good guy and a good coach. He has now built a solid resume as an OC at big time schools. He's pushing fifty now, and I'm pretty sure he's chomping at the bit for an opportunity to run his own program. I seriously doubt taking less money would deter him from his first head coaching opportunity. NIU or any MAC school would be a good platform for him to prove himself as a head coach and potentially lead to the big payday if he's successful and parlays a NIU type head coaching job into a G5 head coaching job.

If the money didn't deter the rapidly declining state of the program could very well. If a coach in his position isn't getting a big pay day , I can't imagine there would be much interest in a building a program from the ground up. Or in this case possibly having to fill a crater to begin building from ground level. This is the danger of not being able to buy out Carey. In two more years this program could really be carrying a label. Could very well be impossible to draw any quality people here
