The Melt Over Kiffin to FAU
Funny to hear the talking heads in sports radio in Baton Rouge bemoaning Kifin to FAU. Maybe people don't want a lesser P5 job over a HC job. The addition of Jones and Kiffin will help CUSA. Book it!

Someone tweeted wondering if utk fans would come to the next MT home game with FAU just to boo Kiffin. That would likely be in 2018. Will Kiffin be there then?

I have no problem with the hire. Good for FAU, hope it works out for you guys.

I doubt Kiffin is at FAU for just one year, barring something like a C-USA championship.

I figure 2-3 years. Im not thinking this is a long term deal. If he wins and were clean he'll be gone.

And that's exactly what you guys want - any G5 guy worth his salt is gone or has had strong interest from P5 schools by year 2 or 3 of his tenure. Consequently, your team's profile is raised, a la WKU and UH this year and several other G5 programs in past years. Otherwise you end up stuck with a guy like our David Bailiff, who has never generated any interest from better programs than Rice in 10 (now 11) years of coaching.

Yep seems to me you would rather have the younger guy who is energetic and wants to prove himself vs the older guy happy where he is which leads programs to become stagnant...

If I were either FAU or FIU, I would want a guy that could get me to a couple of bowls games and energize the base. What happens after that depends on how good an AD you got. Tech did that with Derick Dooley in 07 and has been to 6 Bowls and Two Conference Championships. Its whatever you gotta do to get off the mat.

The lack of success at FAU is ridiculous with the talent in the State of Florida. Grab a few talented players from up North that want to get away from the cold, with the majority of Florida players that want to be showcased and you'll have a winner. You have to build quality depth, which has been one of the program's big issues.

The issue with FAU going back we kept Howard too long and toward the end we had basically no one recruiting for us.
Pelini comes in and wants to go to go the JUCO ROUTE and we started to see some success the 2nd year (after Pelini is let go for drugs) and finished 6-6.
We hire Charlie and he doesn't want to do the JUCO thing so we were not replacing the seniors that we had recruited with other JUCO players and for the last two years we have only had like 5 seniors start.
This team now is only losing 3 seniors who contributed of this years team.
Kiffin is walking into a job where he doesn't have to reset the roster with talent he just has to coach the talent here better than Charlie did.

The addition of Jones will strengthen C-USA. Kiffin is just going to get FAU in trouble.

How much trouble can a perennially 3-9 school get into?
