But we are alone in the sense that none of those teams have defeated them more than once.

Yes, the fact that everyone else on their list is only 1-0 against them, and we are 3-0 is a factor of interest.

What brought this up was a conversation the other day with an Alabama grad, wherein he tried to make a legal analogy of a likely outcome to being, in his words, 'like Rice football vs Alabama football.' When I corrected him as to Rice's all-time record vs Alabama, with the caveat that those victories were a lifetime ago, he mentioned he thought that LA Tech was 4-0 against them all-time. So I looked it up. He was also mistaken about LA Tech vs Alabama in football, although I could see why he might think that, with LA Tech's two victories against Alabama coming in 1997 and 1999, which is in some ways much more impressive than Rice beating Alabama 3 times back in the 1950s, when things in college football were perhaps a bit more equal than they have been these last 20 years:

Louisiana Tech 5 3 2 0 60.0 30.2 11.6

A few years ago, USA Today had an article on the teams with the best winning percentage in major bowls- Rose, Cotton, Sugar, and Orange (teams had to have had at least five appearances across bowls.) Rice was in the top five.

So what's the average number of years since Alabama has played teams against which they hold current 2+ Game losing streaks?
(Such as Rice and La Tech?)

I think they just don't like to play teams that have embarrassed them. And they say elephants have excellent memories..

Wouldn't it be nice if Rice could someday have a head football coach who could at least be competitive against or even beat a team like Alabama, considering that relatively recently, LA Tech beat them twice.

I believe Terry Bradshaw would've been a sophomore at LaTech back in 1966. Back then, freshman were not allowed to play varsity.

Well, yeah. The reason I brought the thread back up was the funny skit SNL did last night. Note the Rice-like guy on the end. Well done, SNL.

RE: Alabama
I remember Alabama getting upset about A&M hiring Franchione away from them, but they did not mention about Alabama taking Bear Bryant away from A&M. Alabama got the best of that since A&M later had to buy off F to get rid of him.

Rice started off well in bowl games winning the first four major bowls. The Chronicle mentioned the bet that Governor Allred won when the Owls won the Cotton bowl on 1/1/38. He was able to symbolically claim Pike's Peak for Texas. Gov. Allred went to Rice.
