I really liked watching Mike Butler, Dexter Reed, Keith Lee,Finch, Michael Wilson and William Bedford play. But I would say my all time favor is Penny. I wish we would have gotten to see more of John Gunn.

Very cool!! A friend of mine who is a huge Tiger fan loved John Gunn!
I once saw Michael Wilson take a quarter off the top of the backboard.

1974 in a cross country meet at Audubon golf course I turned around toward the finish and right behind me were John Gunn and James Bradley. I was startled so much I may have set the land speed record to the finish line. After the race Gunn came up, put his arm around me, laughed and said that was the fastest he'd ever seen a white boy run. We then talked about how much we hated cross country and were only doing to appease the basketball coaches. Gunn was cool.

That's Gunn guarding 7-0 Marcos Leite of Pepperdine. John got into a bit of a "tussle" with him during the games. Alvin Wright laughed and told Leite how lucky he was that Gunn didn't "really" get mad at him.

Looking at their arms, pretty sure that Gunn woulda kicked his @$$!
In the first picture, that looks like Dexter Reed and Marion Hilliard with Gunn. I loved Dexter and used to do reverse-pivot double-clutch leaners from the elbow in my driveway trying to be like him. Hilliard had great hops and a great turn-around J in the lane. John Gunn was taken from this world much too quickly. Still see Dexter at basketball games regularly (up until a couple of years ago, anyway - might still be there, just haven't seen him myself).

Loved them Tigers!

When the topic comes up about the greatest high school teams in the history of this city, the Melrose teams of Gunn, James Bradley and Alvin Wright will always be at the top, IMO.

I went to that championship game in 1974 at the MSC.
We definitely had the Melrose to MSU pipeline going in those days!

35-0, if memory serves...Gunn was named to the Dapper Dan all-American team, which would later become the McDonald's all-American team. He was a consensus top 5 player in the country.

Hey man, we will worry about that $%!# tomorrow!
(j/k) 04-cheers

Per Sagarin, Monmouth is 87 and we are 90.
Monmouth, 8-2, has had a pretty weak schedule which is ranked #269. Of course, that is tougher than our 340th (out of 351 teams) ranking. 03-puke

No doubt, they will probably be a handful. We have a tough stretch of games coming up (all are Sagarin ratings):
Monmouth - 87
@Oklahoma - 41
Incarnate Word - 253
SMU - 47
South Carolina - 24
UConn - 97
Now, THAT is more like it!
