RE: Kiffin Hired at FAU
That is quite a shocker. Did not see him going to FAU.

RE: Kiffin Hired at FAU
There had been whispers of it since last week after he didn't go to Houston.

RE: Kiffin Hired at FAU
I don't intend to downplay or disrespect FAU, but I feel that for a three-time national championship-winning offensive coordinator, and former head coach of USC, Tennessee and the Oakland Raiders, he could have gotten a different and higher profile-like gig. I suppose there just weren't a whole lot of other opportunities this offseason (LSU, Texas, Purdue and Oregon filled pretty quickly, and Houston and USF never showed much interest).
My guess is that Kiffin wants to be a head coach again, regardless of which school, and didn't want to wait another year working with and getting chewed out regularly by Nick Saban.
FAU/FIU/USF/UCF are all capable of turning into consistent, successful and winning programs. They have the perfect location, are in fertile recruiting areas, and all are investing in facilities and amenities. Heck, Florida, Miami, Florida State, UCF, USF, FAU and FIU should go full Texas/Big 12 and just create a conference that separates themselves from everyone else and plant a flag deep in the heart of Florida. (I'm only three-quarters joking).

I guess he wanted to live in south Florida with no pressure and a long term deal not having to be Saban's bit*h.

LOL, the Florida airport and ocean schools have no more potential the MAC schools located in large states. FIU and FAU will never amount to much.

RE: Kiffin Hired at FAU
Seems like a very dubious move for Kiffin. That's the kind of head coaching job where you're not going to move up to a better job, and the best-case scenario is surviving without ruining your reputation completely. But, it's his choice to make.

RE: Kiffin Hired at FAU
I am excited to see what Sark can do.
I wish Lane all of the luck in the world.
But, I am as surprised as anybody that he would take a job of that stature, especially considering that there were rumblings that he may be in the mix for taking over UA and possible ending up at other SEC schools.

RE: Kiffin Hired at FAU
Kiffin has some baggage and has imploded on some big stages. Kiffin is kindo of a high risk/high reward play right now. If he has grown up and learned from his mistakes, he'll have success at FAU and move back to a big time job in a few years. Could be a very good pick up for FAU.

I understand if he wanted to be a Head Coach again, but FAU? This could work or very well, or be a Dead End for a Coaching Career....

The problem with Kiffin is that he's got almost as much baggage as Bobby Petrino, but the head coaching record of Charlie Weiss.
Kiffin is a world-class OC, but frankly I'm shocked that Houston even considered him for Head Coach.

RE: Kiffin Hired at FAU
For the first time in his career, he gets a gig he probably deserves, versus what has happened in the past. The guy has lived an incredibly charmed life, getting gigs he had no business getting.
FAU will show if he has learned anything along the way. I bet he has. But time will tell.

Even Kiffin doesn't deserve a job this impossible. You wouldn't wish FAU on your worst enemy. His first two games at FAU will be vs. Navy and then at Wisconsin. He'll be 0-2 with a minus-100 point differential before the new paint dries in his coaching office.

My prediction: 4-8 then 7-5, and he moves on to a P5 job.

It makes you wonder if there wasn't a deeper reason for leaving.

I disagree. The main two Florida public schools (UF and FSU) are 300 and 400 miles away, respectively, and USF and UCF are over 200 miles away. South Florida has a lot of residents, and at least one of them (FAU or FIU) could very easily move up the ladder academically based on location alone. The question is, which of them can separate itself from the other?

Way too much going on in S. Florida to grab eyeballs. FIU and FAU have a hard row to hoe to get any traction. Hell, even Miami has an uphill battle for attention and they are P5.
