RPI being affected by your ooc schedule more than conference schedule at this point. Not sure about other teams but Clemson lost 2 this week

True, but winning conference games isn't stopping the bleeding.

A win @ Charleston (#56) on Thursday would boost it nicely.

This is always the case in a mid major conference. It is very difficult to not drop if you are highly ranked in the rpi during conference play.

Alright, after beating CofC we move back down to #24 from #30. Unfortunately, we are going to continue to drop even if we win. Beyond CofC, Towson now has the highest RPI on our remaining schedule at #108.

Clemson loses their 6th in a row. They're now at the bottom of the ACC. They probably played their best game of the season against us.

Hate to say it but this might be it for Brownell.

Brownell is better suited to be a mid-major coach. 3 trips to the NCAA tournament in 8 years at the mid-major level. He'll be one for seven at Clemson barring a major turnaround. And the one was with Purnell's players. He could go to JMU or Towson or Drexel and have them in the CAA title hunt almost every year.

RE: Warren Nolan RPI Live update
Brownell signed a 6 year extension in May of 2014 and the Clemson AD and him seem to have a strong relationship. With Tiger football doing so well, the AD will have a lot of leeway and thus I would think have the political capital to protect Brownell if necessary.

I wish him the best and hope he can get it done there. I think his teams will always be competitive at any level. Hopefully he can win enough to stick around for a long time.

The ACC is even tougher to win in than it was when he started there. The ACC is just brutal nowadays where the 8th/9th place team is a legitimate borderline top 25 team. Running through that conference is beyond challenging. Unfortunately with winning there is losing, so good teams can lose a lot of games in that conference, like Clemson is doing this year.

The conference expansions did exactly that, and effectively gave the committee's and deciding powers that "out" to exclude mids come tournament time.

I agree. With the escalated expectations this year, and the fact that they accomplished what they needed to in the OOC schedule. They needed to win last night. He's almost certainly looking at a 10-11 losses in conference now.
He'll land on his feet regardless. He's a good coach, with great work ethic. The ACC is unforgiving.

I agree also. It makes one think - how many excellent/good/great mid major coaches thrive until they go up to the big job at a major school? Their names & numbers are legion. It doesn't mean they are great coaches. Maybe sometimes they need to appreciate what they have where they are. The "bigs" ain't for everyone.

There are a few basketball programs in the ACC that are absolute potential career killers for aspiring coaches. Off the top of my head... Clemson, Georgia Tech and even NC State are the most likely. The annual power of the top of the conference makes it nearly impossible for a coach to come in and succeed the way coaches like Brownell are used to doing. You have to annually finish in the top half which has become increasingly difficult with the additions of teams like Louisville and Notre Dame to an already devastating murderers row of Duke, Carolina, Louisville, etc.

FSU is 6-1 against the top 25 this year, and Louisville with 4 top 25 wins already as well. ND is getting a lot of hype right now, and I know they're good offensively, but they only have 1 really good win (at home against L'ville). Starting tomorrow, they have 4 of 6 against top 25 opponents (3 of 4 are at home). Duke is an interesting team this year as well. Saturday's come back victory against Miami was big for them, and perhaps a vocal leader emerged in Matt Jones.
Clemson seems to be in a category with BC, Miami, NCSU, GT and WFU. Each of those teams has some upside, but they're not capable of winning consistently in the current ACC. Unfortunately, of that group, only Clemson and State seem to be trending down.

ACC is just a different level of basketball, even the bottom level teams have talent and are capable of beating any ACC team other than the very top teams on any night. ACC could see 10 teams in the NCAA tournament and they would all be worthy of the bid-IMO.

The only part of the statement that I disagree with. Pitt, Clemson and BC are the three bottom teams right now and all three have been competitive. Pitt seems to be the absolute worst, and they have very close losses to Notre Dame and Louisville, with a win over UVa. I think every road win in the ACC is quality.

Disagree that NCSU is graveyard for coaches. They get to get on the big stage in the middle of the triangle. Don't forget, prior to Coach K, nobody heard of Duke basketball, and NCSU and UNC were on top.
In fact, I have an odd feeling our beloved coach may end up there.
