Oh, don't get me wrong, I think USF will continue to roll and win 10+ games again next year, I just don't know long haul if Strong is going to be any better than Taggart. USF may have taken a slight step back overall. With the easy out of conference schedule USF has (Illinois, San Jose St., UMass, and Stony Brook) Taggart would have had USF winning 12 games next year at USF...will Coach Strong?

correct me if I'm wrong and I would like to see Tulsa fans input on their offense

It seems like Taggart allowed Flowers to play 'off script' and basically play a Football version of street ball. It was very successful this season but I wonder if the OCs Strong brought over are going to try to make the offense pass heavy and try to get Flowers to throw more from the pocket. The USF offense was so dangerous bc the number of rushing attempts Flowers had so if that goes down by design or concern of the injury risk I wonder if there is an unexpected drop off

They would be idiots if they did that. They can watch tape of last year and see what was successful.

Isn't the OC that was at Texas last year a spread guy? Texas actually had a really good offense last year.

Flowers is very durable as a RB. You don't worry about whether he gets injured or not. It's his senior season, you let him go and play how he plays.

The OC at Texas (USF's new OC) was Tulsa's old OC. He runs the Art Briles offense. It's a spread offense but it has a power run aspect to it. I'm just hoping that Gilbert gets hired for some lower tier HC gig next season so we don't have two schools running the same exact offense in the same conference. I don't like giving people more than one look at it in a season.

Well, then that's similar to what USF ran this past year. Taggart stole a lot of his ideas from Baylor as far as the spread and stacked receivers.

Not quite the same route tree though.

Hmmm. The Tulsa offense isn't built on pocket passing a-la a pro style offense. It's built on reads that occur out of the zone read. There's times that only the QB knows if he'll throw or not because our line is going to do the same things a lot of the time. There's a lot of balance. In fact, Tulsa finished up at almost exactly 50-50 in respect to running and passing yardage.

So, Flowers will definitely still have a running option if he wants to pull the ball and take off, but at some point he's going to have to make throws. ACCURATE throws. Accuracy is key. The routes that Tulsa runs aren't all "gimme" throws like check downs or things where a wobbly ball over the top to a wide open receiver will do. That over the top throw has to be precise where only your guy can catch it, or there's going to be a PI call. The underneath routes have to be read correctly pre-snap and delivered at a precise time.
thanks. yeah I know you guys went 50/50 but that's more with RBs. Your QB vs UCF seemed to do most of his damage from the pocket

That's where I'm interested to see how much of that offense they throw with Flowers bc he's not the most accurate passer. Most of his passes under Taggart were over the top or the quick screen when they bundled 3 WRs to one side. A lot of their big pass plays is Rodney Adams catching near the line of scrimmage and juking his way to a 20 yard gain.

False (somewhat). Flowers did throw a lot of short bubble screens to WR's, but also hit a lot of long balls. In fact, He probably is the best deep thrower in USF history. He's hit long ball after long ball his entire career. He's struggled at times with short/intermediate throws (although is not as bad as a passer as some think, completing 61.5 percent of his throws, compared to 57.9 for McKenzie Milton, for example). Long balls, however, are not usually a problem.

it's too early to judge Milton and his stat line is behind a porous OLine. I remember Flowers looking lost during the snaps he took as a Freshman and now he's the offensive player of the year

That is a decent home schedule in 2017. Should get good turnouts.
