CBS pulled a 5.1 overnight for Army-Navy, which it says is the game's "highest rating in 22 years."

I honestly think that had a lot to do with it.

I think the exposure is getting greater in the Social Media era. Plus, I know a lot more people who do watch the game tell others about the great tradition the game has.

That and Navy was ranked. It was also Vern Lundquist's last game.

RE: Army-Navy game pulls the "highest rating in 22 years."
Army hasn't been good since 1996. It was the best match up of good Army Navy teams since 1996. Those were 2 very good teams. In 96 Army was 10-2 with wins over Air Force, Rutgers and Duke, losses against ranked Syracuse and Auburn teams. Navy was 9-3 with wins over Cal, Georgia Tech, Air Force, Rutgers, Wake, and Duke, and only lost to ranked Notre Dame and Army teams and Boston College.
This year was a ranked Navy vs a pretty good Army who were both bowl bound. Plus in a country with ESPIN ruining a long standing national tradition in college football, the Army Navy game on CBS is "pure". No Colin Kapernick's to protest this game and what it stands for. This game is what college football is supposed to be about.
Cheers!

Lindquist retired in about 10 games

Looked like football from about 1978

I honestly think that had a lot to do with it.

Yes, for sure. It was definitely the P6 AAC that made this years Army Navy game. Lol. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I think fact that Army has a much improved team this year, and wasn't too big an underdog. I was there, and around for the pre and post game. Army folks really believed this was the best chance in a long time. And we were right.

I've said before we should do that eventually, but only after they got their **** together.

Well, it looks they got it together now. I think they are definitely going to beat a weak (5-7, 4-7 against FBS) North Texas team in the Heart of Dallas Bowl to finish 8-5 on the season. Only fair to point out that UNT beat Army @Michie earlier this season, but I think the rematch will go Army's way.

Congrats to the Cadets on a solid season. It's good to see Army football become relevant again.

So, pulling 7.9 million viewers, WITH Uncle Verne's last game, over 7.1 million the year before...

Tell you what, how about we give Uncle Verne credit for 800,000 and give the Army-Navy game credit for 91% ?

No kidding. I might be in the minority, but Verne has got to be the biggest Captain Obvious out there in talking head land. He calls a game as if he's talking to kindergartners. I found him annoying. 03-phew

CBS only pays $5 million for this game each year through 2018.
