They've seemed to have a confounding and frustrating knack for playing down to their competition, even or maybe especially with a healthy roster, as much as they play up. But, that's true for almost every team, maybe except for Popovich and the Warriors (of past years, I don't know how they've done this year).
But it would seem to reason that a full roster would have made us more competitive with Toronto, and we would have fewer big losses (they might still be losses, but closer).
The undefeated-in-close-games stat (12-0?) is insane. Also insane is that the Warriors game wasn't one of those, lol.
I hope they can sustain and maybe steal 1 or 2 of the Cavs games. Get plenty of rest and approach them with the same confidence. Fizdale is a pretty good manager and motivator of the players and team overall. Hopefully he and many of the players get the national attention they deserve.
The national media pretty much ignored the game and pretended like it didnt happen. They arent going to talk about the Grizzlies until they force them to during the playoffs. If this team can get healthy and gel before the playoffs watch out
Yeah, the narrative I saw blamed the loss on injuries on the Golden State team. Of course, they did have Curry, Durant, Green and Thompson.
We did move up to 6th on ESPN's power rankings this week though.
A tweet mentioned that SI has Fizz as the coach of the year for the first half/trimester of the season. Is there still a curse/kiss of death for that award? Kerr and Pop have received it, I think, but for a while, whoever got it ended up fired within a couple years (Karl, Stan Van, maybe Dantoni?). Superstitions are illogical, but I still am superstitious, and struggling with wanting just and overdue recognition vs curses, lol.
Last 11 NBA coach of the year:
- Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors (2015-16), Current
- Mike Budenholzer, Atlanta Hawks (2014-15), Current
- Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs (2013-14), Current
- George Karl, Denver Nuggets (2012-13), Fired 2013
- Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs (2011-12), Current
- Tom Thibodeau, Chicago Bulls (2010-11), Fired 2015
- Scott Brooks, Oklahoma City Thunder (2009-10), Fired 2015
- Mike Brown, Cleveland Cavaliers (2008-09), Fired 2010
- Byron Scott, New Orleans Hornets (2007-08), Fired 2009
- Sam Mitchell, Toronto Raptors (2006-07), Fired 2008
- Avery Johnson, Dallas Mavericks (2005-06), Fired 2008
It doesn't guarantee a job like winning a championship does.
