Tom Herman did the same thing but still was able to do fine at Houston. I'm completely fine with this, but he needs to put the time in to build the staff and solidify a recruiting class over the next couple of weeks. Having people talk about Fickle and UC during the playoffs can't be a bad thing. It also will show recruits he is committed to finishing the job. I imagine he'll be putting in some insane hours between the 2 jobs the next month and i have no issue with him handling it this way.

RE: How important is it Fickell drops everything and comes now
I actually have more respect for Fickell for staying with his guys through the end of their season, than bailing on them for his new gig.....I am not a big Urban Meyer fan, but he stayed with his Utah team through their bowl game after he had been named HC at Florida. That impressed the hell out of me....A Coach can say "Screw the administration, I am out of here". He can say ,"Screw the fans they'll turn on you like a pit bull, I am out of here." I get that, and I can see that. But, a coach that bails on his players before the season is complete is beyond bush. You don't bail on your guys when their are still battles to be fought. Three or four weeks doesn't matter going forward. You finish the season with the guys who have gone balls out for months, hung with you and gotten you to this point. It's a coach/player thing.

I guess I am ok with him staying, but I hope he also devotes some of his time to being the head coach at UC so he is ready to go when OSU is done for the year.

UC didn't go 10-3 and lose its coach to the SEC. We're in a rut; dude needs to start getting us out immediately.

Tom Herman also is not coaching Houston in their bowl. I guess finishing what you started is a Fickle trait and not an OSU trait. If Fickle ever leaves UC on his own for another HC job we'll see if he is just blowing smoke or he truly means what he says.

In reality Im guessing Urban must mandate his assistants don't leave before the season is over (Herman, Ash and Fickell)
