Yes he can. Not in person but electronically (which is how most of its done now anyway). He can start getting guys identified, communicate interest to them and start getting OVs scheduled for January.

The fact that some of our fans are going into full meltdown mode over this is pathetic.

Fickell can call recruits from his basement. He can't do many visits due to the "dark period" regardless of where he is working from.
He can review and assess recruit video from his basement.
He can talk to potential coaching hires from his basement and set up live interviews for weekends, etc. (He might even skype)

I don't have much problem with a coach being loyal to their players through the true end of the season. Especially being in the playoffs. Remember how we bitched when Dantonio left early, and then when Kelly left early? (Jones did not bother me so much).

Now, instead of a coaches 10 - 12 hour workdays, he may need to put in some 16 - 18 hours workdays.

My 2 cents is "Get off his case".

He will do what Urban tells him to do.

Let's just say Fickell does well here (I certainly hope so!). What do you thinks the odds are when he takes his next job that he will stay around to finish out our season? Next to zero, I would imagine.

He'd be the first if he did (but no I don't have any expectation that he would stay).

Well, if he does well here, his next job will probably be OSU, and I don't see UM getting fired. It'll probably be a structured retirement and transition that allows him to stay and coach whatever bowl UC is in. He seems like a character guy, and I hope that's how it plays out. If not, I'll get upset then, but I'm not going to work myself up thinking about what may or may not happen 4, 5 or 10 years down the road.

...At least the nicknames will be easier for Fickell. If I hear "bowlcation" one more time I'm going to lose it.

Actually the fact that he's staying around for OSU's bowl game gives me more confidence that he would do the same for us when he leaves here. I like that he cares about his players.

Clamber for BK's head because he leaves before coaching sugar bowl, clamber for Fickell's head because he actually had the integrity to do the opposite.

I think the NCAA needs to deal with this issue but we all know they are spineless and will not. Therefore until staying until a teams season ends is enacted I expect incoming to UC to do the same as outgoing did to us.

To do otherwise is a face slap especially coming from an o$u lifer. Perhaps newby Bohnhead does not understand the average fans hatred for that team up north.

Realistically what can anyone do about it? You can stop a college from hiring/firing who they want, when they want? Only thing you can do as a university is institute a stiff buyout to discourage it. I'm not a lawyer- but I would be surprised if there was anything you could do legally.

We would prefer him to start ASAP.

But now that its official, there is not going back. If he is going to stay on at O$U, then it is what it is. Shame on Bohn.

but at least it shows the guy has some honor and is willing to see something to the end I suppose....can't knock him for that. Wonder if Bohn even tried to negotiate that part or if he just laid down.

He set his own precident. If he ever leaves Cincy for a better offer off a UC bowl season, will be hard for him to answer the question of why not showing UC the same courtesy.

I guess you are unaware that the NFL bans it.

Brian Kelly's first game for UC was a Bowl game leaving his prior team high and dry too. Just sayin'.
