RE: ESPN breaking news Luke to UC
It is times like these that I like to meditate on a quote by Former U of L coach Howard Schnellenberger.

"The University of Louisville is on a collision course with the national championship. The only variable is time."

He is still, and forever will be, correct.

Compared to Tuberville, I expect our new coach to work harder, recruit better, and put a better staff in place. How far he takes us remains to be seen, but he was the logical choice of the commonly-mentioned candidates. And, FWIW, the reaction on Twitter from OSU fans towards losing him is almost universally negative.

I doubt Pelini would leave YSU for UC on Monday especially if they win their game today.

Balderdash. If he first shows up a month from now, performs as hoped, and puts UC on a track toward continuing excellence, he'll be revered. Take the long view (unless, of course, you're running for Congress).

People are gonna reference recruiting as the reason to come now.

We'll, our recruiting ranking sucks right now. Like, worst in quite awhile. So, with Fickell, and the rumored coaches wanting to join him, and how good of recruiters they are, I'm gonna go out on a crazy limb here and say that, no matter when they start, our class is gonna be just fine.

Just fine or as good as it could possibly be?

Problem is way too many around UC were fine with "just fine" the past 4 years up until about October of this year. It's an acquired loser mindset. Demand excellence, not just fine.

I'm sure Luke Fickell is logging onto Bearcat Banter right now so he can get a better grasp of the expectations for UC football. :sarcasm:

Even better, "I'm Luke Fickell and I'll be there until the end with you if you sign with UC."

I refuse to name the man (not that I can't... I won't...) but the last time I heard someone talking about a "culture of losing," at UC, it was by a guy who...until last week...was employed as a Head Football Coach.

I wouldn't call this distilled. The most distilled personality on this board is Duane Norman, and he is no more.

Duane's suspension expired a few weeks ago. I imagine he will be back in full force soon.

RE: ESPN breaking news Luke to UC
If I were a UC fan I'd be a little concerned about this hire, as I was a few years ago when Fickell popped up in coaching rumors for Miami. The guy had a 6-7 season at OSU sandwiched in between 12-1 and 12-0, and while the program was going through a lot of problems at the time that weren't his fault, such a big difference may be very telling about his coaching abilities imo. Also the fact that Meyer keeps bringing in co-defensive coordinators with him is strange, why would he do that if he didn't use that strategy in previous head coaching jobs and Fickell is a good coordinator? And other than two years at Akron fifteen years ago his entire career has been at OSU, he has no idea what it's like to coach at a school without the resources and prestige he has now.

I think Fickell is in for a surprise when he tries coaching a G5 program without the benefits of Ohio State he's used to having. I don't think 4-8 seasons will become your norm, but anyone expecting a repeat of Kelly is in for a lot of disappointment imo.

Someday UC needs to figure out how to provide a microphone to the people asking questions at press conferences.

It shouldn't be too difficult.
