Considering that the perception is that tO$U receives favored treatment and is seen as more important vs other schools in the state like UC, if it looks like he still thinks his job in Columbus has priority over starting his work at UC, the optics are terrible. When/if he signs the deal, his #1 priority should be UC not tO$U.
It's not "perception." It's the reality.

He's involved in recruiting as is Coombs, and i seriously doubt that they are not working right now to mine some kids who they like but might not have been able to fit at osu because of the roster. You will get as much exposure with the pub from the playoff mentions to offset any late start issues. The first recruiting class will likely though show how much recruiting pull and expertise they have given the coaching changeover to another school located so close. If they bring it in very small, then likely not so much. If they pull some kids then the perceived benefit was a factor. Regardless, you have to give it a chance. Experienced guys. I like Strong, but i would rather try this. Fleck, et. al who knows. I will be most curious to see the new guys take on our current roster.
This seems the safest route. There are question marks about all the potential candidates. I like the one year that Fick had in Columbus. It was a miserable stay punctuated with a touch of optimism. Fick will remember what did not work. Unlike TT, he is on the way up. We will not be dazzled by his interviews, but it appears that he is a lunch pale type coach. I bet his demeanor and side line coaching will remind us of Butch not real good. I bet he is a worker though which is refreshing.

RE: Breaking,,per Bearcat Report
There is not any recruiting on campus during the holidays so as long as the coaching staff is put in place they can contact kids from about anywhere in the world. All this crap about the fan base and hand holding is hilarious. It's bball season, no bowl here. I will be very happy if they pull a few kids from midwest we otherwise would not have gotten in here. This is similar to the Dantonio hire obviously, and i for one look forward to seeing how he does, and welcome KC back. He's a solid guy, and the opposite of the TT perception. Good hire, maybe not sexy, but hopefully Fick and his group get some D back at Nippert. Lot easier to win games when the opponents score under 40 points, and that goes for all our past several coaches.
