That's got little to do with their 8-0 start.

They had a great start last year, 15-0, but faded during the latter part of the season and ended up without a bid, despite being in the SEC.

History matters, otherwise we'd be betting on Northwestern, William & Mary, and Maine to make the tournament and for Nebraska to advance past the first round. USC might overcome their history and get a bid. If so, they would be a good first round opponent for UNCW because none of the current Gamecocks have any NCAA Tournament experience.

In 1997, South Carolina got a 2 seed and lost 78-65 to 15 seed Coppin State. Coppin State almost made the Sweet 16 as they lost to Texas 82-81.

This year is different, I've watched them, they have impressed. They have beaten a few ranked teams and are not 15-0 on a cupcake schedule.

They're only 8-0 right now. Slow down!!!!

South Carolina is now 8-1, with tonight's loss to Seton Hall. Lunardi may have UNCW playing USC in the first round, but the seeds may be reversed.

They have some decent, 50-60 rpi types, wins, but not any great ones.

Realtime RPI has a bracket projection that has UNCW as an 8 or a 9 playing Ole Miss. CofC is a 12 in a play-in game.

This. In fact until March is really means nothing and is merely just a model that plugs teams in and spits them out based on their metrics/curve. That is why even on selection Sunday they release one literally seconds before the release because it is based on sources and leaks where everything else is pure speculation. If you look in any season the release in the morning and final release right before announcement tends to be quite a bit off (seedings not teams). No point getting upset with anything. Keep winning and you won't have to worry about it.

I don't mind it saw mid Feb, as things are taking clear shape. But now, forget about it.

Unless we beat Clemson, that MTSU game could have been a big win on the road. If Talley had played, we could be 10-0 right now.

Bracketology is definitely worthless at this stage of the season, and only slightly helpful later in the year. As for the Top 25 polls, I don't think we're being punished for the MTSU loss really. Even if we were 10-0 we still might not get more than a couple votes in the polls. Hell, just look at Middle Tennessee themselves: They only got 7 votes in the AP and 3 in the USA Today.
