OT: AAC coaching carousel
I will start by saying this is NOT a slam against AAC schools as to a degree it means the coach has done his job if he's wanted by P5 schools but at the same time it's sometimes tough losing your head coach to another team/conference. Saying that.... the AAC has lost 8 of its 12 coaches from firings or new jobs in the last 2 years

USF - left for Oregon
Temple - left for Baylor
Cincinnati - stepped down after season
Houston - left for Texas
ECU - just finished 1st season
UCF - just finished 1st season
Memphis - just finished 1st season
Tulane - just finished 1st season
Tulsa - just finished 2nd season
SMU - just finished 2nd season
UConn - just finished 3rd season
Navy - just finished 8th season

A lot of turnover. They have had good success though. Those are the breaks. We will see what it does to them to lose some of that coaching talent.

Probably why Navy had the success they did this year even though they lost a ton of players after the 2015 season.

If schools aren't part of the P5 cartel, they don't matter. Period.

RE: OT: AAC coaching carousel
once upon a time, those numbers would make one shudder....

today, this is the norm for the g5...

IMO, it demonstrates the proper direction made by the decision makers within the athletic department when they leave....

as an example, it wasn't until MEM (finally) began placing more focus on football before Fuente got plucked by VT....you have to go back to '74 with Pancoast before you'll find one that was hired away...that's 8 coaches (one was tragically killed in a plane crash and another 'retired' with a losing record) in between....

it had to have been tough being a MEM football fan during those 40 years....

Good example is my very own USM

Bower was here for 18 years. Since he's been gone USM is now on coach #4 in the past 9 years....however, USM fans won't lose sleep over #2 of those 4. 05-stirthepot

EDIT....take away Fedora's 4 years after Bower and we are on our 3rd coach in 5 years

absolutely....hiring another Bower style coach is a thing of the past.....there's just too much money to have to compete against

quote from an ESPN article:

Houston wants to require an excessive buyout so the next coach can't leave after a couple of seasons without paying a substantial penalty, a source said.

There are, at the most, 10-15 destination jobs in the NCAA. Making the powers that be and big money boosters at the other 100+ FBS schools understand this is damn near impossible. Cowherd's rant on Houston should be required reading material for every administrator/booster for those 100+.

Whats interesting is that the AAC is becoming a league that is acceptable for good coaches to resurrect career or make a name for themselves.
