RE: Taggart takes Oregon Job
This may be controversial but didn't CWT try to leave last year after finally getting his 1st winning season? The writing was on the wall then in regards to his motivations and lack of loyalty to USF. I was never impressed with his coaching ability anyway. It seemed like his win total was a product of having exceptional talent that naturally matured hence the gradually better seasons, but wouldn't a better coach have won sooner and better? Strong will take you guys to the very top, and I don't think he would leave anytime soon after the Texas debacle. So cheer up fellas this may end up being a hidden blessing. Taggart I suspect was already at his ceiling 04-cheers

RE: Taggart takes Oregon Job
I dont blame him and wish him well. He lifted the USF program and is leaving it very well stocked for the next coach.

The reality is that coaches need to do whats best for themselves. Many forget that after starting 1-3 last year and facing Cuse with an over all 7-21 record at USF many USF fans and higher ups where wondering if Taggart would finish the season, so the 18-4 record since that time hides the fact on how close he was at getting fired.

USF will get a good coach that will find a team and schedule that would make them look really good next year.

If they didn't want Taggart leaving they should have just bucked up their financial defense and stopped him 07-coffee3

RE: Taggart takes Oregon Job
I love how the response of almost every AAC fan when a coach leaves is "He will regret the move." I'd say probably not for any of these, even if they don't work out I'd say every job an AAC coach has left for has been a good enough job to justify leaving. These guys aren't leaving for Purdue or Kansas, they are leaving for programs that have somewhat recently been in National Championship races.

This. CWT isn't really a good coach. USF didn't make any offensive progress till they went to the spread, and even then it was based mostly on the improvisation of Flowers and Mack. You guys may be better off without him.

Oregon is definitely rolling the dice. Taggart was 24-25 with us, and his two "big" years were 8-5 and 10-2 with no bowl wins and no conference titles. That's a pretty thin resume to take over a program that literally played for the national championship just last calendar year.

But like others, I wish him well, he is leaving our program in a good place. Plenty of talent and momentum right now.

And no, I never expected him to have any "loyalty" to USF. Why should he? He wasn't a USF alumnus, player, or anything. We brought him in as a hired gun to help our program, so the motivations were "mercenary" on both sides. If he had gone 4-8 this year, we would have fired him without showing 'loyalty' so he had no obligation to us either. Oregon made him a better offer and he took it, we would all do the same.

That is just a ridiculous statement. All teams are defined by recruiting. Ask Nick Saban. Taggart was a winner at WKU & that's why USF hired him 4 years ago. Those are Taggart recruits at USF & to somehow dismiss his talent as a coach just reeks of some underlying issue or issues you have with yourself.

With Taggart to Oregon that means we should be keeping Phillip Montgomery for at least one more year. I've been hoping he'll stay for 4 years. Surely that will give him enough time to get us a conference championship and a NY6 bowl.

Charlie Strong? Has ties to Florida and recruited the hell out of the state for Louisville...

Need to go hire an older coach who is comfortable with USF being his last job.

Wow! Charlie Strong would be a great hire. He can build a powerhouse in Tampa.

Charlie saw how a program like Texas ran. He worked under a great AD at Louisville. Getting rid of the media distraction in Austin may be the right fit for Strong.

How did that work out with Tuberville at Cincy?

Butch Davis jumped too quickly.

You know, this may be the type of job that Les Miles could build, too.

USF is a very attractive job.

WTF. Issues with myself 01-wingedeagle.,anyway my point is some coaches are good recruiters and some are good x and o guys. Rhule never out recruited Taggart but he still beat him. I suspect Taggart my be basically a great recruiter that may prove fatal to Oregon if he can't suddenly pull Florida 4 and 5 stars from FSU, Miami, UofL, and the SEC (hint he wont). Can anyone say for certain that Taggart could very won without arguably some of the best talent in the AAC. FUENTE win a share of the AAC title after 2yrs with basically Walk ons and mostly no to 1-2 star recruits.
