So the Aussies are going to make this an annual thing.

Rice and Stanford both have bye weeks in Week 2 next season, so they could play this game on Labor Day weekend if they want to.

If they played a week earlier (August 26) then both teams would have two consecutive bye weeks prior to their second game of the season. (Unless they scheduled conference games for week 2, which is possible but unlikely, at least in Stanford's case.)

It sounds like a good move for both teams and pushing their brand. Rice is making move so they can get out of Conference USA.

I didn't know standing still was making a move. They just retained their mediocre at best coach for example. Rice needs to figure out who they want to be and where they want to compete at, if at all.

Rice wants to be in the AAC. It's the G5 conference that has similar institutions. They also have long term Pac ambition, but they are not close to tapping that potential.

I can totally see Rice pull a "Stanford of the South" type of move, if they're committed to spending big in football. They have the (old, but nice) stadium and recently build a new practice facility in the end zone.

Would like to see them muster an offer to buy out BCoM, and really boost their research and add a med school, clinic, and health sciences component.

Like I said, they have to figure out what they want to be. Languishing in C-USA has to suck.

I think you will be seeing many other countries, especially if they can get a week 0 start.

Need to hold onto our cash to retain Rhoades and the basketball staff. 10-3 out of conference, and oh so close in Lubbock. Could Dance out of C-USA, but I hope for an NIT first round game with the Cougars. That would be epic.

Next year Bailiff's buy-out drops by about a million.

By the way, women's basketball is 9-2 under second year coach Tina Langley. Men/women have a combined 12 game home winning streak going. Not a bad move to get basketball contributing to the bottom line before tackling football once and for all. Maybe after a year under Applewhite, James Casey will be ready to come back to Rice?

Could there be the possibility of 27.5 straight hours of college football?

10:00 AM Eastern - England (5 hours ahead of New York)
1:30 PM Eastern - US (Eastern/Central)
5:00 PM Eastern - US (any time zone)
8:30 PM Eastern - US (any time zone)
12:00 AM Eastern - US (at Hawaii)
3:30 AM Eastern - Australia (7:30 PM local time)
7:00 AM Eastern - Ireland (5 hours ahead of New York)
