Rhule to Baylor is a bit of a setback for Oregon, who made a strong play for him last night, two people w/knowledge told @USATODAYsports

I would not be surprised if Oregon now goes full force for South Florida's Willie Taggart, though others are still involved

I understand that. Rhules strong point is local and regional recruiting. No talent in Oregon. You have to battle the CA schools for CA kids to make the long tract to Eugene. He will be all over the state of Texas. Chip Kelly got lucky with Mariotta. That being said. Baylor is very risky

What's Rhule's connection to the state of Texas?

Taggart makes too much sense, having been at Stanford and having the offense he had this year, he would fit quite well in Eugene.

I agree, if you are going to take the money, at least live in a pleasing environment. Waco? Hot and sucky.

The ridiculous expectations at Oregon killed the deal. Baylor knows it in full re-build mode so Rhule is guaranteed 4-5 years.

Baylor fans were talking about making the playoff this year, they are completely clueless as to how dirty their program is/was and the impact that is going to have moving forward they just care about winning and being ranked higher than a school like Baylor should be

He can find it on a map, and he has been to Houston and Dallas. There's that.

Plus I understand that our OC is from Texas and may be along for the ride.

I was hoping they'd whiff on the hire, not get someone as great as Rhule.

not dumb at all.

Oregon just fired a coach that led them to the CFP. That's a ridiculous amount of pressure and you want Matt Rhule to go there?

Oregon will always have an advantage due to Nike, you can point to Helfrich but at the same they had a coach before who is coaching in the NFL (albeit not for very much longer) Baylor will never have built in advantages and now in fact have built in disadvantages with their current scandles

Mark Helfrich inherited a winning team and ruined it. As soon as Mariota left, his team started going down the drain. They went 2-7 in conference this year.

Oregon has had decades of success for their fans to at least have those expectations, Baylor had a nice mini run by a cheater coach and now expect a team in Waco Texas to compete with Oklahoma and Texas... I think Oregon is more reasonable

Baylor probably had a better deal on the table for Rhule, over Oregon.

The AAC is the new stepping stone for coaches

Don't forget Morris told Baylor no.

At least now, we just lose 1. If Morris said yes, its likely Oregon would have landed Rhule and we'd be 2 down.

For some reason, Baylor was dead set on an AAC coach (wanted Herman and Morris before Rhule)

As it stands, its a wash.
