Kent State: Sources tell FootballScoop Kent State and head coach Paul Haynes are expected to part ways. Multiple sources tell us AD Joel Nielsen has been working back channels gauging interest in the position the past few weeks; however we hear the response hasn’t been exceedingly positive. Nothing has been finalized at this point, per sources, but we understand both sides expect to move on. Will update as more is clear. Update> A representative of Kent State athletics called this afternoon to state that there have been no “back channel” checks and to note that at this time Paul Haynes remains under contract through the 2017 season.

Kent needs to commit to football. Basketball and minor sports seem to be their thing. I can see why it might be hard to get interest in a new coach. You could end your career there

Kent has had some pretty good lineage. Nick Saben, Lou Holtz and Gary Pincle played there. Don James who had a long career at U of Washington. Jack Lambert, Antonio Davis, but did he only play basketball. Glen Mason coached there. They need to decide what they want to do

They're not suicidal. They will to get a guy off a P5 staff. There does seem to be a trend in MAC to get someone with some NFL experience. CMU, WMU, BSU

Kent is situated in the terrific Northeast Ohio/Western Pennsylvania football haven, and it does quite well in almost all MAC sports. One would think the Flashes could put it together in football, too. Never been there, but the stadium doesn't look like anything special. Does Kent have an IPF?

They don't want to spend money on football. They will be lucky to get a special team coach/ grad assistant from P5.
They should drop football down a level.

After watching the NIU at Kent game, their stadium has to be the worse in the MAC. The stands don't even go to the goal line. People think our stadium is bad but their's is brutal

Spartan is the word for the stadium ... and for a school that had the first indoor facility in the MAC, (even before Ohio State!!!) to be this consistently poor is amazing ...

But at the same time the individual players they have put in the NFL continues to be pretty strong, (currently five or six I believe and most actually play!!!) which makes one think it can work ... if they want it to work. -- Antonio Gates is a sure HOFamer and James Harrison will get a serious look ... Julian Edelman with go in NE's ring of honor if they have one. Several other younger players seeing action, too. Most, amazingly as free agents.

thats the problem. I think they just committed a large amount to fielding a lacrosse team.

"with the reno plan"

Give me a million dollars and I'd be a millionare. 04-cheers

It's a crowded, glorified high school stadium with clustered walk ways, concessions and restrooms without it!

with that being said it's worlds better then what I saw at Kent State
