First, those bowl games you listed are on ESPN during "bowl season". It's not apples to apples to compare them to our game on ESPN2 on a night most fans don't realize a game is on.
Second, there is no football, but we will be going up against a Capitals game on CSN and an NBA game on ESPN (Rockets/Thunder).
This is part of the issue

It's about the closest "apples to apples" comparison we're going to get, unless ESPN starts changing its FCS broadcast schedule. The bowls in question sometimes have competition as well, from the NFL, other bowls, and the same non-football sports you mention.
The ratings for this game ought to be better than last year's matchup on the same Friday. These are two offensive powerhouses, one of which was on Gameday last year, and ESPN has no other football on at the same time to promote (of course, they'll promote the NBA on the flagship more). If nothing else they can use the forum to talk up their bowl lineup and the CFP.

Wouldn't expect to see many visiting fans this week. When I lived in Allen, TX ( which is about 10 miles from the Frisco FCS championship stadium), it was noted by the media that SHSU did not travel well. When they played North Dakota St for the title in back to back years, the Bison fans outnumbered Bearkat fans 3:1 one year, 4:1 the other. And Sam Houston's campus was only 200 miles away. Fargo is over a 1000 miles from Frisco.

Not that it's an excuse, but I think both years in 2011/2012, NDSU fans overwhelmed them in purchasing enthusiasm and quickly sold out the games. Many of their fans couldn't get a ticket and that was part of why they were so outnumbered in their own state.
I agree though, I'm not expecting much of a SHSU contingent, especially when their fans are used to not having to travel outside of TX, LA or AR.

I go back and forth so much, but Im much more excited about the chance to play for a title (albeit a small one) vs. some ****** bowl.
I know ill open up a can of worms here, but now is the time we should talk about this.
You're right. This discussion hasn't been talked about at all on here over the last few weeks, months, years...

Not gonna lie, at first dance I thought this thread was entitled "Clamidia Bowl".
(I do realize that the word is Chlamydia - but the above spelling is how I read it)
In fairness to me, I do have a touch of dyslexia.
Carry on.

the fellas in the front row of 109 took the opportunity Saturday to remind the ESPN guy wearing the ODU football hat that ODU sucks.

RE: Raycom Media Camellia Bowl
In order to truly compare deep FCS playoff runs to low/mid tier FBS bowl games wouldn't you have to add the ratings for all 3 of JMU's games (this Friday on ESPN2, next Friday on ESPN2 and I believe 1/7 on ESPN) and compare with the either the one bowl or the one bowl and a conference championship game if televised on the World Wide leader? I think the deep FCS playoffs (assuming you get priority with ESPN for televised games) i.e. The North Dakota State model yields more eye balls (over a month long period) than one 3-4 bowl game- not to mention the scores/highlights exposure that goes with it.
