DIRECTV Now - It's worth it. (If you're a Sling TV subscriber.)
I just signed up for DIRECTV Now and I have to say it's way better than Sling TV. I had the Sling Blue & Sports Pack which put me at $35/mo but with DIRECTV Now I pay the same $35/mo get 100+ channels and I added HBO for $5/mo additionally. So for $40/mo which I paid along with getting a free Amazon Fire TV Stick. I'm grandfathered in too $35/mo for 100+ channels so I keep this channel for as long as the subscription. I'm assuming once the New Year starts they'll get rid of the special deal.

Broadcast - ABC, NBC, FOX

Sports Channels - ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS, NBCSN, FS1, FS2, FOX Sports Regional Networks, MLB Network, NBA TV, NHL Network, Golf Channel, Tennis Channel, Big Ten Network, SEC Network & Longhorn Network

I'm assuming CBS, CBS Sports Network, NFL Network & beIN Sports will be added eventually to the package fairly soon as well. It worth it to me and so far I enjoy the service. I've already cancelled my Sling TV package.

Anyone else use the service yet? Thoughts?

This is why the PAC can't have nice things.

BeIn will eventually, but CBS won't. They want you to go direct to them....unfortunately, CBS all access doesn't include the sports channel from them...so I've heard.

I've heard about the $35 intro cost...but I don't know how long it will last.

Another nice thing is that if you have AT&T mobile, you can stream your DirecTV content on your mobile device using LTE but without using any of your mobile data.

Pretty nice cross-platform promotion.

Verizon needs to acquire DISH, and do the same with Sling TV, like yesterday.

Like I've been saying for some time now, a lot of companies are going to be diving headfirst into the TV distribution game. Now that the physical barriers have been completely removed (meaning it's no longer limited to companies who have the physical network infrastructure to get the TV signals into our homes), you're eventually going to see all of these be choices for TV streaming:

DirecTV (AT&T)
Sling (would guess Verizon will acquire them, but we'll see)
Apple
Google/YouTube
Amazon
Sony
Samsung?
LG?
Facebook?
Twitter?
Microsoft?
Maybe even something like Pandora/Spotify??

And I doubt Comcast and Charter are just gonna sit on their a___es and watch their TV distribution business go down the tubes.

Will be very interest next few years to see how it settles out.

Funniest thing is that you have all these "cord cutters" who will declare victory ... because they get internet-only from the cable company and buy a TV streaming package of 100+ channels, all at the life changing savings of $30/mo.

I figured the PAC network would have gotten a direct tv deal by now. I'm starting to think that's not going to happen for you and that sucks because in a world with less cable tv, direct tv is the best deal out there. You guys did work out a deal with Dish right? They are still in business....I think?
Cheers!

I agree it blows sling away. Until DTnow gets DVR, I think PSVUE is still a better deal from a sports perspective. Also, allows for 5 different viewers.

Yeah, the real question is what is the cost going ahead.

The only way to "lock in" to an intro price is to stay subscribed, and a lot of those who will benefit from something like Sling or DirectTV Now are people who only need to be subscribed to it for a part of the year. But they lose the intro price the first time they cut it out.

What if I have a direct tv subscription already. Will they let me cancel it for DTV now?

Right.

What they are doing with me at least is charging $22 dollars for cable with premium sports and movie channels BUT to get that price I have to get an internet subscription.

It's possible to get a 14GB broadband package for $65 dollars. When you throw on a $35 dollar sling package, $15 dollars HBO Go, $10 dollars STARZ it then becomes more expensive than just having DSL internet and a discounted cable package.

The cable companies have more advanced platforms than internet TV providers, better customer service ect.

I mean I have HBO, Showtime and Starz for $2 dollars total. That is mostly all I watch with plenty of movies and quality original content on there. I can watch the shows anytime. The on demand movie offerings are better than a regular subscription from a streaming service for far less money.

RE: DIRECTV Now - It's worth it. (If you're a Sling TV subscriber.)
I just read the fine print and honestly this is not a huge saving....but it is good for those who travel a lot and have access to the internet.

Live a Little: 60-plus channels for $35 per month
Just Right: 80-plus channels for $50 per month
Go Big: 100-plus channels for $60 per month (currently available for $35)
Gotta Have It: 120-plus channels for $70 per month

To summarize it for you men. You can't get ESPN or the channels most people want to watch unless you pay $50. This is a VERY good deal for the early sign up promotion. You get the hundred channel package very cheap.

But overall this is pretty much just DirectTv without a satellite to put it simple. I wouldn't cancel anything for this because once you add up cancellation fee's and the stress that does come with streaming it will not be worth it.

To add to my post above here are the disvantages.

-Similar price to directTV but no DVR.
-You need a good internet connection.
-Limited to to people at at time.

I think I would jump on it if I did not have a wife. 35 dollars is a great deal and it would allow me to watch tv on my phone/tablet. But having a wife, let's be honest if your lady is anything like mine she will eventually start yelling about how much work she has to go through just to watch TV.

It sounds petty but turning a tv on, going to your ROKU/Fire Stick/etc, locating the app, then scrolling through this can become an annoyance. Just things to keep in mind.

I hear you on that. I've got Sling through the Roku, and I have rabbit ears for over-the-air channels. The downside is I've got 5 remote controls (TV, HD converter, Roku, DVD, VCR - yes I still have a VCR).

Luckily my wife doesn't ever watch TV. But my Dad's a TV addict and when he's around I'm always being called in to turn the TV on because he can't figure it out.

I guess Im lucky. When my wife and I got married to 2 years ago she went from having cable on her own to learning to love OTA and ROKU. She adapted very quickly, although she gets annoyed when the OTA signal gets choppy. She will have no problem with this new service and when I told her I signed us up she was actually excited she could watch TV on her tablet.
