St Pete bowl question and UCF
If UCF went to st. Petersburg would they have been playing Miami Ohio or Mississippi State ? UCF fans would you rather play an SEC school even at 5-7? Or are you happy with staying home in Orlando for your bowl ?

RE: St Pete bowl question and UCF
Honestly, there is a bit of intrigue to play Mississippi State and revenge that Liberty Bowl loss........ but crappy venue and bowl time was an issue. However, there is also intrigue with staying in Orlando to play on a Saturday, and should have a great tailgate...... but the opponent just does not give much excitement. Its essentially gonna be like playing in a UCF spring game in regards to there only being UCF fans in attendance.

MAC has a backup tie-in to St Pete bowl, so in all probability they took the AAC slot, and 5-7 Miss St was the late fill.
How much getting Houston to Las Vegas involved other trade offs is my question overall.

If it cost us a single bowl vs a P5, I would not have done it. This was done entirely for the benefit of the MW. The Pac12 had no team to send to Vegas--so the MW's traditional destination for their champ was in dire need of a decent opponent for SDSU.

Still would rather stay in Orlando. St. Pete bowl venue sucks.

Why would we give up a P5 bowl to help the MWC?

Payout for the Vegas bowl is $1.35M. St Pete bowl is $537.5k.

I'd rather not go to a Bowl vs going back to St. Pete.
It's probably the worst sports venue in North America. Bad for Baseball and even worse for Football. This is the one Bowl that I hope gets cut from the lineup and AAC tie in.

Arkansas State is never an easy-win when you play them. It's better than them putting you with South Alabama. I think Arkansas State can give UCF a competitive game.

Agree, there's no way I'd go. Mississippi State has the worst, trashiest, rudest fans I've ever encountered. It's a backwoods school from a hick state that by an accident of history is treated as a major program.
Southern Miss fans always treated me well when I went to Hattiesburg though. I think Mississippi State has a major inferiority complex from their decades of losing and their all-time losing record. Their fans were the absolute worst of the "SEC! SEC!" living on the glory of the conference types I've ever encountered, though many of the schools including UF have the SEC cult mentality too.

Thanks CitrusUCF, we in Hattiesburg try to be friendly.....UCF has a lot of classy fans also.
But you are right about Mississippi State fans...they are pretty bad, but Ole Miss fans are even worse. Bunch of snobs up in Oxford.

Which is really funny because normally one wouldn't put 'snob' and 'Mississippi' in the same sentence lol.

Would love to see ECU sign a deal with Southern Miss. Hattiesburg is a great road trip with great fans. If anything else we should definitely be playing each other in Baseball

If you are going to a second/third tier bowl, may as well be at home and an easy game to attend for the school and the fans. I would pick the Cure Bowl any day. The opponent at this point does not matter. what matters is the extra practice time for our young team.
I agree with previous posters.... cowbells suck. Obnoxious and really uncomfortable for others. They really should stick to home games with those.
