The North Texas Mean Green and Army Golden Knights have officially accepted invitations to play in the 2016 Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl, Brant Ringler, the bowl’s executive director, announced Sunday.

The seventh edition of the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl will be played Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Cotton Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT (noon ET) and the contest will be televised by ESPN.

“We are excited to announce that North Texas and Army will be playing in the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl this year,” Ringler said. “Congratulations to both the Mean Green and Golden Knights for their outstanding seasons. This promises to be a thrilling matchup at historic Cotton Bowl Stadium. Fans from both programs are in for a special time in Dallas.”

North Texas (5-7, 3-5 Conference USA) is headed to a bowl game for the ninth time ever. The Mean Green will become the first school ever to participate in the Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl twice. North Texas defeated UNLV, 36-14, in the game following the 2013 season.

Love the location for obvious reasons. Coming to terms with a re-match in a bowl game, but i'll be alright with it. Hope we can bring a big crowd again.

Don't see why we wouldn't bring a crowd. It's 2 days after Christmas, and most people are still on vacation. I think we bring at least 30-35K.

Just got off the phone from buying my HOD tickets. It wasn't easy to get thru due to the high number of calls they were receiving. I could hear people on the other phones in the background. Seems like the Mean Green Nation will be out in force for this game.

I'll be pulling for Army to beat Navy next weekend. That would certainly draw extra attention to this game. I'm sure LA Tech fans will be pulling for Navy. We may have to create a game thread for that game on here next Saturday.

I don't know lol. I kinda want Army to beat Navy because I feel bad for the Black Knights' long losing streak. Cheered for them last year.

Then again, if Navy beats Army, that would make Navy look a little better going in to our game. But if they lose, maybe that makes me feel better about playing them? Or would that make them more determined to beat us? Or if they win...
