I hate comments like this one. Last year's Arky fans were insufferable bragging about how they were going to roll the Dawgs. Payback was sweet.

Earlier this year I made the prediction that when Troy visited Southern Miss they were going to learn what good football was all about. We know how well that worked out. Instead USM showed us what good football was all about.

Laffy's coach has been an excellent bowl coach and I'm betting he'll have his team ready to play again. The Superbowl is an awesome place to play football regardless of opponent.

I see no reason we shouldn't have 1 tie-in with the Sun Belt. If the argument against it is "we're too good for them" then explain why C-USA doesn't slaughter the Sun Belt every time we play. And even then, if you take that same line of thinking and send it to the P5, that's how the G5 loses tie-ins to bowls against P5 opponents, so careful what you wish for.

Geographic issues aside, I think our bowl line up is pretty good, opponent-wise. We've got 2 AAC, 2 MWC, 1 MAC, 1 SBC, and an independent. Sucks we don't have any P5 opponents, but we usually get one from the HOD. The B1G was just too top-heavy this year. But in normal years, we get to send either our champ or runner-up to take on a P5 team. I think it's a good variety, especially when you consider that New Orleans' SBC team isn't usually 6-6. Until Lafayette hijacked it, it was usually the SBC champ/co-champ or at least the runner up.

Excellent post, and you're right, the "we're too good for them" mantra makes a weak sauce.....and as you say, it's a double-edged sword that could be used against most any G5 team, often is.

As for Laffy hijacking the NO Bowl, I will give them credit where credit is due. I saw somewhere else here that their game against Nevada had an attendance of 34,000 plus. How many fans do you think Nevada brought? 200, 500, 1000? If they repeat those numbers this year and the Eagles can bring 20K or more, that place will rock.

I'd like this bowl to be with a better conference too, but the Superdome is a great place for a bowl game.

You do realize that C-USA is the lowest rated conference of 2016 right? (and it isn't even close) A team that finished torward the bottom of the Belt beat a ranked SDSU team easily and beat Mississippi State...

Troy won that game?

Yes. He was saying that Southern Miss didn't show Troy, but did show LaTech.

Stink, another aspect of your game with Laffy is that it's a Saturday night game at prime time, 8PM if I recall correctly. What could be better?

I don't recall the day of Laffy's game with Nevada, but I do recall I LOL'd because it was a 10AM local kickoff time for national tv. 10AM! What a sucky starting time and those cretins still bought over 30,000 tickets.

Good luck Eagles!!!!!

Yep, the only college game on that night too :) Should be great for recruiting, at least for the winner!

As much as we mock them, the Belch has 3 bowl games smack in the middle of their footprint, NO, Mobile, and Montgomery which is great for fan travel. The Cure bowl will be attractive year in year out to Appy and Georgia Southern, even Coastal Carolina some day. Don't know what we can do to improve our situation, and our bowls like Bahamas and Hawaii are great for the kids and coaching staff, but brutal on our fans for cost during the holidays.

Appy isn't a thing.

I misinterpreted your punctuation and I apologize for that. As far as this game, it will be interesting to see what USM team shows up. Pretty solid bowl to follow up a game involving Top 10 G5 teams in App and Toledo.

Is Nick Mullens good to go, and what effect do you guys think he will have on the team in returning?

that too......if not an access spot, I take it every dayum year....it's also early enough where it doesn't interfere with xmas plans where a large part of our fan base has access

Feel free to join us. Louisiana Tech, USM, WKU, Marshall, and MTSU would make solid additions for when division play starts in two seasons. Then you'll get Bowl match-up in your footprint and it won't have to be against the lowly, yet higher rated, Sun Belt.

I can easily see hell freezing over before I see Tech joining the Belch. Enjoy your statistical bump.

For as bad as State is OOC, South Alabama is the exact opposite. If those two could even things out, we would be on solid footing. As far as I know Arkansas State has always had issues out of conference; but more recently Blake Anderson treats them as glorified scrimmages because he doesn't see any value in winning them.

USA's wins would be flukes if they didn't also beat San Diego State last season. USA got lucky in Starkville because Mississippi State missed a FG. Much like Tennessee got lucky to beat App by fumbling into the end zone in overtime and having two App players dive over the ball.

Regardless, one of C-USA's top teams, number two in wins, lost to the top Sun Belt team by 4 scores. 05-mafia

I mean it's in the Super Dome so a "sell out" ain't gonna happen lol.

That said, this should be a great crowd. Not sure it'll break the record set by ULL-Tulane tho. Tulane is actually in New Orleans and used to use the Dome as their home stadium (to include the year that game happened). USM isn't that far but it's still a different city. Plus, both teams are 6-6, so some of the more casual fans may not show up, plus the locals won't be too excited.

Still, I would still expect a large crowd, maybe the second largest. New Orleans isn't getting the same caliber game as they did last year, but in terms of attendance, this was the best outcome for them.

I doubt Tulane brought a significant number of fans to that game.

True, although if you look at the results of ODU-WKU I think you'd agree that ODU wasn't at the same level as WKU and Tech. ODU just had a really easy schedule. App State wouldn't do that to either Tech or WKU.

I am psyched. The logistics of my holiday travel and the NOLA BOwl could not be more complementary. I will be joining three Eagles from Gulfport. All of us attended USM in the early 80's.
