Another jab at NIU by Kirk Idiot
After they announced the WMU vs Wisconsin matchup, Herby said "I like this matchup a lot, this is not an NIU-Florida State" matchup. Can someone on twitter remind this idiot what the CLOSEST bcs game going into the 4th quarter was in 2012????

Well that Florida State team was a lot better than this Wisconsin team. That Florida State team had 11 draft picks and three 1st round picks.

He's right, NIU's 2012 team would DECIMATE WMU this year. At least 2 touchdown win for that team over this WMU team.

The top 15 in 2012 was just worlds worlds worlds worlds better than the top 15 is this year. Not even comparable universe. Today's #10 Wisconsin team would have translated to around 20 in 2012.

I agree with Herbstreit from the perspective that Wisconsin wont be as dominating as a Florida State. Im not ready to say 2012 NIU > WMU, they are very comparable overall imo.

This is just flat out wrong, and you know it. Pretty much the only teams that this WMU team would give 14 points or more to on a neutral field this year are the four playoff teams. The 2012 NIU team was nowhere near that level.

EDIT: MaddDawgz02 is spot on in all of his comments.

I would open 2015 WMU vs. 2012 NIU at NIU -2, and I suspect it would close at pick, or very close.

Oh please! Your NIU team was great that year, and I was proud as a MAC guy. WMU is great this year (I think every bit as great, but we will never know). What is it that makes you feel good about disparaging WMU's team because you feel slighted a bit by a talking head on TV? Broncos gave huskies nothing but support your year.

Most of us are rooting for you and respect your team. I do think Kirk was right, but he needed to expound on the fact that FSU was a very deep and athletic team in 2012. Wisconsin has a very good team, but they are more of the big running team and WMU matches up better with them than we did against FSU.

That 2012 Florida State team was full of NFL talent. Record breaking draft class for one team. This Wisconsin team is nowhere near as talented as that Seminole team. Broncos got a good draw on this one.

Although I don't think he was accurate, I do, unfortunately, think he meant that NIU had lesser athletes, and that WMU has P5 type athletes, putting us in a better position to match up with a very quality P5 school. They went on to suggest that FSU was disappointed to be in that game, and that won't be the case with Wisconsin. I know NIU had some great players. WMU had to play those players and learned all too well how good they were. But I think Herbstreat was being somewhat dismissive.

I'm not sure which team was more talented. I think Florida State, like most SEC and a few other ACC schools, in general enjoy a perception of being super talented, whether they are or aren't. I do know that the FSU team you played was a bit underperforming on the field, and didn't live up to the talent based expectations. Honestly, the game itself made conspicuous that they were not much better that your NIU team. If WMU plays as well in its game I will be proud. I think it's possible for us to win though.

They had a lot of guys drafted in the NFL and won the national championship the next year. They were bigger and faster at most positions. Wisky isn't built the same way. Might be bigger, but not faster. They are definitely a good team, but they would lose to that FSU team. I think you guys match up better with Wisky.

Additionally that FSU team won their conference. Wisconsin has three losses and didn't win their own conference.

There are 4 players from the 2012 NIU team still in the NFL. There is a perception that WMU has superior G5 talent because of their recruiting. Not true. Only 3 all-Mac first teamers. Obviously Davis is of that level and more. But WMU doesn't win by talent. They win by efficiency, which is a credit to flecks coaching and Terrell's play. The broncos win the turn-over edge, penalty edge or both. They don't shoot themselves in the foot. The only time I saw them do that this year was the second half of the MACC and they almost blew their entire season to a decent, but not great Ohio team. Terrell's excellent play, as it is to every Mac champ season, is the key to WMU. It's a very simple formula ...the team with the best QB, is the best MAC team. The over all team talent at the top half is all the same.

Good post.

I hate to call Terrell a "game manager," because I think that term gives him short shrift, but at the same time I don't see the pure cannon arm that NFL scouts love. He's just SO intelligent, and his football IQ is off the charts. I'll be interested to see if he gets a shot at the next level.

I don't see him at the next level. Like you mention he just has no arm strength, very heady, great college QB. Reminds me a little of Josh Haldi

This.

2012 FSU was ranked 12th.

2016 Wisconsin is ranked 8th.

NFL talent isn't the end all.

RE: Another jab at NIU by Kirk Idiot
Herb Kirkstreit is a complete P5 homer and a moron. If this is a better matchup it's because FSU then is better than Wisconsin this year. They had 11 draft picks and 3 first rounders. Their defense was second in all of FBS. And it was still a 7 point game going into the 4th quarter (11 points at halftime), much better than Oklahoma and TSISB did in a couple of their BCS games, along with several other teams. If NIU was so overmatched, how did NIU narrow the score in the 3rd quarter, shutting out the vaunted FSU team?

That moron just can't admit that he's wrong over and over again. I really don't think WMU is that talented other than Terrell, Davis and Franklin. And they graduate this year. In 2012 NIU won their MAC regular season games by an average of 30 points per game.
