Coaching is hard work. It takes time/talent to study game film and glean something useful.
Not once this year did I see our offense "pick on" a slow LB that couldn't cover across the middle, or a CB who habitually played 10 yards off the ball, or had a tendency to Interfere every time he was caught in man coverage with no safety help or whatever.... Not once did Zach Taylor's offense seek to exploit an opponent's weakness.
Meanwhile, again and again, I saw opposing teams come out 3rd and long, look left, look right, find CB Linden Stephens, and then immediately throw on him.
It was infuriating. Well, that and the offensive line not being able to run block. I still don't understand that.

I'm interested in all these redshirts we had this year. Will they stay or go, are they good enough we want them to stay ?

You point out some good (and just a few of many I might add) observations of lax pre-game preparation and poor in-game and second half adjustments. The running game with Mike Boone is my nomination for the "Mystery Science Theater" award. The Gunner situation is a close runner-up. The team became a reflection of the coach who lacked putting in the time, focus and the fire to win above his golf game appointments. Literally, Tommy checked out this year and it showed.

Two once great offensive threats - Boone and Gunner - simply disappeared. How the hell does that happen with a "hall of fame coach"?

I don't know that we'll ever know the full truth but part of the answer is why we're getting a new coach.

Dive into nepotism by giving a friend a job over the phone with no interview and without looking at any other candidates, he earns NitWhit.
I mean, who could have ever seen that this was never going to work? Oh yeah...
Do you even know the definition of the word "nepotism"? Good grief, you're a fan of a school that has hired George Blackburn, Ray Callahan, Dave Curry and Ed Badger, among other disasters. Mistakes happen. The key is cutting your losses and moving on as quickly as possible.

I hope you do not have any input in hiring decisions in your career. Because if you are dealing with a position that commands 7 figures and you call up a friend to offer it to him without looking at other candidates....any other candidates...your ass is filing unemployment in the very near future.

Whit did make one good hire in his tenure here: Ty Neal. (there may be others)
Hindsight is always 20/20, but Tubs was already on a downward trajectory at Texas Tech. He probably shouldn't have been hired here based on that red flag alone, but at the very minimum it should have opened it up to multiple candidates. He may have been hired as a temporary bridge to the Big 12 or to imbue our football program with big name status. Regardless of the reason, his CEO style combined with his inability to retain quality assistants is the reason he is no longer at UC.
I wonder how many offers will be rolling out to prospective recuits this week.

Better question may be, what went right? Because the answer is pretty close to nothing.
From the moment I saw him wearing that thin leather tie, I suspected he was trolling us.
Oh well, time to move on.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but he utterly failed to capitalize on being the local school in one of the best metropolitan areas for high school football in the country. Everything starts with and flows from his stubborn refusal to recruit locally.

Molly Alvey too. What she has done with the volleyball program in four years from an utterly devastated roster and having to deal with Coach Sunahara's indiscretions affecting recruiting has been incredible. They're set up to be a real contender next year with who they've got coming back and she is recruiting extremely well at a national level along with locally in one of the best volleyball talent areas inside of the coasts.

Well, now we have confirmation that Tuberville didn't even try to get local kids...
(Just noticed we were discussing Tuberville in three different threads)

Some were posting that info for 3+ years from direct info from coaches around town and it hurt some people's feelings.
