USM Tops in C-USA Attendance 2nd Straight Year...
Dec. 2, 2016
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Golden Eagle Nation continued to set the standard for athletic support, this time allowing Southern Miss Football to lead Conference USA in attendance for the second consecutive season while also upping its average from 2015.

An average of 28,588 people passed through The Rock's turnstiles over the course of the season, including 31,275 for the Oct. 29 HOMECOMING win over Marshall. The campaign was kicked off the right way with 29,509 witnessing the home-opening shutout of Savannah State on Sept. 10. Overall, the Golden Eagles drew nearly 4,000 more fans than the next-closest school's average.

The upward trajectory of attendance for Southern Miss football is nothing new. Last year, the program saw a 25 percent increase in home attendance, good for seventh-highest in the nation.

Another 28,325 witnessed Southern Miss compile a school-record 702 yards in a 44-28 win over Rice that opened October. Southern Miss has now topped 30,000 attendees for a home game five times in the last six seasons.

The athletics department is extremely thankful for all who made it possible. The Eagle Walk continued to be a sacred tradition to its participants and viewers, and Southern Miss was also pleased to have Golden Eagle legends Jeff Bower and Tori Bowie lead the pack for games, as well as the 1996 C-USA Championship team for their 20-year reunion.

Like being valedictorian at summer school. Nice, but gross, all at the same time.

Does this have a link to conference data? Mid-year it appeared the C-USA attendance leaders were in the West (Southern Miss and the Texas schools), with only Marshall over 20k in the East.

Something's wrong with that chart. When you add up the games Rice is at 128,551 total, not 121,151. So the average should be 21,425.

Through the first three games, Marshall was over 30k. Then the bottom fell out and we finished with some terrible games, including our historic worst FBS crowd in the finale. We have an enthusiasm problem in Huntington.

You just need the teams that have goood potential in regards to attendance to be good; UTSA, Marshall, USM, UTEP, etc. everyone else that have good records have bad attendance. Which is not good.

That's not right. ODU has never not had a sell-out, so there's no chance Marshall was the only east team over 20k.
