Temple executes 2018 lease with the Eagles
http://temple-news.com/news/football-pro...ield-2018/

This is no big surprise since the stadium study is still underway or at least that's the official explanation.
Word on the street is that Temple doesn't have permission from the city to build the stadium.
Unlike many Temple fans, I am not shocked that the Eagles would want to increase our rent after 15 years from $1 mil to $3 mil per year. To me it's just business.
So most likely come 2018 the rent will increase to the new amount. More problematic is the increase from $190k to $1.7 million in game day expense at the stadium.
Temple also does not get any parking or suite revenue. Temple does get a small 10% cut of the concessions.

Said it before and will say it again. Nothing will happen until the city and N. Philly gets its palms greased. I was in on the Apollo(Liacouras Ctr) fiasco with John Street. He made no bones to Dr Pete and O'Connor that nothing happens until the constituents get some $CASH$

All the years that Tulane's home games were in the Superdome (1975-2013), I believe we earned a grand total of exactly $0.00 from parking/concession/etc.

I know for a fact we got no $$ for several years in the 80s/90s. I can't swear that was true for the entire time but suspect it was. Never heard differently from anyone else and I checked in with several sources over the years.

So thankful for Yulman Stadium now -- Temple fans need to do whatever it takes to make OCS happen. (if not "on" campus, then very, very near-to-campus).

USF and Temple need to both get on campus stadiums; it makes the league look bad, when you have 35,000 in attendance and your stadium still looks half empty on TV. They should be given an ultimatum to take care of it post haste, like Houston and Tulane did.

RE: Temple executes 2018 lease with the Eagles
Most Temple fans don't understand the big expense of playing in a 70k seat stadium when at best we might draw 30k. The way the money works out is that whatever event goes on, if it draws say at least 50k, there is a nice profit from the event.
If the opponent is not Penn State or Notre Dame, Temple loses money.

Temple considered moving into UPenn stadium which is Franklin Field. It is big at 55k seats but old. It's also clear across town. It would make Temple look silly playing there.
I had proposed looking for a site in some rundown areas 5 min from campus but the TU admin decided that it just needed to be on campus. They were correct but my path would have been much easier for them.

So they have gotten themselves into a fight against the Mayor, city council and neighborhood groups. It's Temple against the world. I think city council could be moved it let's say the AAC lobbied on Temple's behalf.
It's going to be a tough bangout fight but hopefully Temple wins.
Another ally of Temple could be the building trade unions.

They seem to have minimal options. They need to be the ones pushing for an MLS team. It's their only hope.

Huh?

Philly does have a MLS Team (Union), and they opened up their 18,500 seat stadium back in 2010:

Two best teams in the East don't have OCS...

Let's worry about more revenue for the AAC first...

Shows you how little I follow the MLS. 03-drunk That and there are a ton of new teams.

Well in that case, they should have encouraged a 35K (post-expandable if need be) stadium they could share rather than an 18K one.

Jeez...

We had this debate back in the old Big East days when Villanova was talking about upgrading their football to FBS levels but using the (then unbuilt) soccer venue as their home field... It was the heavy consensus then that wasn't a suitable option.

But then again, this conference doesn't so much resemble the BCS conference of old, so the calculus is probably different now.

RE: Temple executes 2018 lease with the Eagles
It's just time to be realistic. Not even teams in the ACC, Big 12 and Pac-12 necessarily need 50k+ stadiums. With rare exception, no one in the AAC needs anything more than a 40K seat stadium. For most of the conference, if that isn't big enough, then there's a bigger venue nearby where they can play games short or long term if necessary.
