If we did not have this 15 game swoon, that could be very true. Apparently he insn't getting fired. His 6-6 records have been greatly padded by very very weak non- conf games.

He is not stepping down. He was fired for after an investigation was done over how he treated players.

Alum or not, Indiana would not hire Rod Carey. When IU hired Wilson they wanted to make a concerted effort to upgrade there football program. The shine came off of Rod's star when we were destroyed by Bowling Green in 2013.

Come on guys, we just have to sell it properly.

I think PJ would be perfect. No one has high expectations for the football program as basketball rules, but the student body would definitely embrace his wackiness and RTB. I mean this is the school that employed Lee Corso as their coach for a very long time.

Becoming a HC in the B1G East in a state that isn't Michigan, Ohio or Pennsylvania probably isn't the best career decision right now.

and PJ Flecks WMU 29-21 record.

OK he does not have the magnetic charm, energy, fundraising ability , salesmanship and recruiting power of PJ Fleck,

but for $400 000 a year we at NIU are receiving excellent value for money.
If anyone has a plan to raise $4m a year to attract a coach like PJ go ahead.

Realistically let's stick with Rod and find a top assistant coach who can recruit well.
If we pay our assistant coaches market salaries we might attract a great recruiter like PJ.
Rod Carey has shown the ability to develop many players very well.
The lack of athletic talent makes NIU FB season very susceptible to injuries.
If Rod Carey had a deeperline of talent his record would be better.
His presence gives NIU FB consistency and experience although I understand the disappointment and impatience many fans have .

What many fans might forget or choose not to remember is that Dave Doeren's incredible 23-4 record which landed him straight in the SEC, is very hard to replicate.

NIU has a magnificent FB history and the last 15 years have been incredible.
The 2010-2015 span was unbelievable.

Coach Carey has added to the NIU legacy and deserves a chance to continue.

IU promoted their first year defensive coordinator to HC on a permanent basis. No interim, no search.

Maybe Rod can join the new coach's staff as offensive coordinator or something.

^^I didn't know Rod Carey started out 11-0 in 2017.
