And the schedule played heavily in ODU's favor (not ODU's fault) it's just how things worked out. Not playing Tech or a healthy MT like WKU did or catching USM during they're injured stretch ......those games alone could have brought ODU to a possible 6-6 season ( who knows ) but I do know that MT and Tech was was tougher than Charlotte or UTEP. Proud of what ODU has done , won the games they should but lost the toss up game badly

This. Jeff Brohm deserves COY if WKU wins on Saturday. If Tech wins Holtz should be considered also. Tech lost 3 NFL Draft picks and 4 others that are on NFL teams. 2015 was one of the most talented Tech teams ever (Holtz still couldn't get it done 2015).

As far as ODU, Wilder had the easiest schedule in CUSA and his team got manhandled in 2 games against average FBS competition- NC State and Appy, and completely destroyed against WKU. Wilder did win 9 games but the overall body of work is not that impressive considering the soft schedule and the blow-out losses

Average FBS competition? App State went 9-3 and is bowl bound. Their losses were to Tennessee, Miami and Troy (by 4). NC State went 6-6 with a win over North Carolina and is bowl bound. Four of their six losses were to Clemson, Louisville, Florida State and Miami. How many of those four teams would LA Tech or WKU have beaten? I think none. Does that make the Dogs and the Toppers average. Hell no.

Yeah, we got beat pretty bad by both Appy and NC State, but I don't think you an characterize either of them as average, and I know ODU got progressively better as the season went on.

Now, who should be COY? Trying my best to be objective, I do think it comes down to two choices, Brohm or Wilder. Clearly Brohm has done one hell of a job, while Wilder has taken his team to a level no one thought possible preseason. I would not object if either is selected. With just possibly a little bit of homer in me, I personally think the most deserving is Wilder.

To those who believe the quality of the team should be the main determinant for COY: Should the award automatically be given to the coach of the team that wins the title game? Because that would be the easiest way to do it by far; if you have the best team, that means you have the best coach. Takes all the guesswork right out of it.

RE: Who wins CUSA Coach of the Year award this year?
I understood last season why Brohm didn't get the award. Expectations were high and they did what they needed to do. Not so this season. I understand that what Wilder has done at ODU is impressive, but let's be honest, ODU didn't play LaTech, MTSU and got their "tough" games at home in Southern Miss and UTSA. WKU had a stretch of at LaTech, at MTSU and home against ODU and went 2-1 in that stretch. IMO, it's time Brohm be recognized for what he's done at WKU, and that's take them to two consecutive CCG on the home turf, while dominating most opponents, home or away. Sustained success has a place for reward too, and that's what Brohm has done.

People forget that WKU lost 9 players that made nfl teams or practice squads , lost a 6th year QB as well. That's one heck of a coaching job. WKU has been very competitive in every game

The day my Hilltoppers gets to play my Mountaineers, I expect nothing less than a beatdown from my alma mater. ODU lost to App State cause you need to fix yo'sef before you can beat Yosef.

WKU has nine players from last years team that's on a NFL team or practice squad? Not doubting you but that doesn't sound right. You might have had nine players in training camp but did all those players make a practice squad? If that's true than congrats.

I see that Higbee and Fant are on an active NFL roster. That means 7 players are on a practice squad. It's hard as hell to even make a practice squad so if WKU has seven players from last year team on a practice squad then Brohm is bringing in some serious talent.

It's Holtz or Brohm, whomever wins on Saturday. If Tech can beat WKU twice in one year, then Holtz deserves it. Not many could ever do that. But Brohm is a damn good coach, and if he can rebound his team, it's his.

I can't remember who made or missed the cuts.... Point was WKU had lost a lot of quality players.

We have from last year's team, George Fant, starting LT for Seattle, Brandon Doughty is on Miami's practice squad, Tyler Higbee 2nd team TE for the LA Rams, and Prince Charles Iworah, on SF's practice squad. Total of 4 from last year's team, to be exact. Still, quite a loss of talent. Fant, oddly enough, is probably the player with the smallest impact last year, and the only one starting in the NFL from last year's team.

Huge difference from being invited to a training camp and making an NFL team or practice squad. I'm sure you did lose a lot of quality players but it wasn't 9 NFL active or practice squad players and that was all I was trying to clarify. Everybody loses quality players every year.

RE: Who wins CUSA Coach of the Year award this year?
As an ODU fan, I certainly hope Wilder gets it. He really has done a great job this year, making the leap from 5-7 to 9-3. Leading ODU to its first bowl is a remarkable achievement. Also, taking a startup program to the level of only having one conference loss in a FBS conference is amazing.

Still, I think Brohm will win the award. He took a WKU team that appeared to be on the rebuild and made it into another winning machine (ODU found this out first hand), and he certainly should be in strong consideration. WKU will probably win the CUSA title, and that's in large part due to Brohm's coaching abilities.

Either coach would be fine by me.

Access bowl, should win the CUSA title. It's going to be glorious when Tech curb stomps WKU. We did beat them earlier this year right?

What coach did better at coaching a team?

5-7 to 9-3 or 1-11 to 5-7?

Same 4 win improvement

Let me ask the ODU fans a question. Now I don't remember (not going back to check) but I seem to recall a lot of ODU fans (seem like a lot) questioning if your coach was the right man for the job after the Western/ODU game.

So how do you get from there to now saying he should be COY? I wont have any problem if he wins this award, he's in my top 3. But how do fans get from that point to this one.
