This can't all be due to some sort of sink-job Lavin did to the program his last year or two, can it? That Mullin is doing the best he can with his inheritance?

This split has been good for some of the programs in the Big East. The conference looks wise beyond years tapping Xavier, Butler, and Creighton given how competitive they remain and now with some kind of major distinction, and Villanova still doing what it does. It's nice seeing Providence and Seton Hall come back to life, but DePaul's continued absence, and the drops of Georgetown and Marquette are unsettling. I thought St. John's was back in a way, with just a hiccup last year. Nope...seems more like 2015 was an anomaly?

I mean, nobody's going to mistake the Big East with the A10 as some might have some seasons back, but a repeat robust conference, I'm not so sure. In a 10-team conference, it doesn't help anyone having multiple bad teams at the bottom, no matter how strong the top is. It crushes and skews the metrics, and really hurts the middle of the conference where the bubble teams are. Both the RPI and KenPom love this conference, though...

Conferences aren't measured by their bottom, or frankly their middle. They are measured by how good they are up top. Period.
