Southern miss isn't putting 15K or 20K into any bowl game, especially in a 6-6 season.

correct

I know people will say we had 30,000 at the liberty bowl in 1997 even though we did not sell out our 10,000 allotment and others will say if we didn't go to Hawaii, we would have sent 25,000 to dallas....

If you think every USM fan that shows up at a bowl game buys their ticket through USM you probably think that the government doesn't waste any money too. A minority buy through the school, sad to say.

i get that but the point is for some reason we ( southern miss fans ) seem to over-estimate our attendance at bowl games

the 2002 houston bowl against ok state.... announced attendance ~45,000. If we had 12,000 there that day it would be a miracle. Yet, there are those that will swear we had 20,000 there.

Any USM fan AT THAT GAME who thinks we had 20K there is crazy. If announced attendance was indeed ~45K, up to 35K were wearing Okie St orange. We might have had around 3-5K IMO from what I saw that day.

You guys were 6-6 back in 08 or whatever when we played you guys in the Nola bowl. we had 30k in attendance and pretty equal on both sides...15k is atleast to be expected I think.

Now I don't think UL will have 30k there either with them being 6-6, Their last game with stAte had only 14k announced.

That was an exception to the rule because most of us (or rather me and my southern miss friends) half expected us to have a losing season that year. It was our new coach (Fedora) first year. We came alive the second half of the season and it was exciting. Going bowling that year was a complete surprise to a lot of us and we were optimistic moving forward with Fedora. I was at that bowl and yes we had lots of folks there. It was a GREAT game too. This season has been a LARGE disappointment. We thought this could be the year we host the CUSA champ game. We failed miserably. BUT we did upset LA Tech and get bowl eligible which surprised a lot of people and gave us some hope but it's nowhere near the excitement we were feeling when Fedora took us bowling his first year.

Anybody who swears that is an idiot. I was at that game, and we numbered in the dozens.

Remember this conversation next time you're all wondering why we didn't get invited to whatever conference it is to which we don't get invited.

We had way more than a "dozen". I was there too and what was impressive was the oki state people ALL with the exact same orange t-shirts on. It was intimidating that they could get their people to do that. If we had 5000 there, they were wearing 5000 different colors.

Great point ... We have at LEAST 3 variations of 'gold' ... Some mustard color, yellow, gold, and cannot make up our minds what shade of gold we market... Never mind the fact that half the fans wear black on go gold games

Munzly said he had heard from numerous sources both USM and other that we were in the N O Bowl. I was so optimistic I booked my room three weeks ago at the Mariott on Canal St. SMTTT

You are booked at the ULL/Sunbelt headquarters FYI. I made that same mistake when we played MTSU in the NOLA Bowl. I made sure to get in at the Hilton this time. There are some good rates for all of the hotels through the bowl's travel page. Cheaper than I could find on internet search engines.
