RE: Conley out indefinitely - fractured Vertebra
Lovely.

"Spinal fractures take different lengths of time to heal, depending on the type of fracture that occurs. According to Medline Plus, most spinal compression fractures that occur from an injury heal in about eight to 10 weeks. In some cases, these injuries heal with nothing but rest, the use of a back brace and pain medications. However, surgery is required to heal badly damaged vertebrae."

Good Lord. Chalmers is supposed to be 100% or close to pretty soon. We should absolutely try to bring him back.

THIS JUST IN: Mike Conley expected to miss 6-8 weeks with back fracture. Conley will not undergo surgery, will be reevaluated in 1 month.

Michael Wallace ‏@MyMikeCheck 42m42 minutes ago
My understanding is Conley's injury is similar to Dallas QB Tony Romo's. No surgery required but rest and recovery needed to heal fractures.

@MikeAScotto Grizzlies have expressed interest in Norris Cole to fill the void of injured starter Mike Conley, a league source told Basketball Insiders.

Bad news: spine fracture
Good news: not structural, doesn't need to heal. Return based on pain, 2-4 wks.

Seems to be some confusion on the length of time ...

Gary Parrish ‏@GaryParrishCBS 3h3 hours ago
@andriakbrown MIke’s out at least six weeks, per @WojVerticalNBA. So it might be a long six weeks.

He will not come back sooner than later. Look at what they invested in him.

The new hope is to not implode, but tread water, losing more games than winning, then try for a push over the last 35-38 games for the playoffs.

IF guys are healthy, all of them, then we should be right in the mix for a lower seed spot.

You know.....you just don't get as much for $30 million per year as you used to.

Really though it's no surprise that mike is injured. His achilles injury from last year is bothering him too.

It was my opinion and of so many others that the grizz are upside down. Too much money and too much risk for very little chance of a return that we want. This team is 1st or 2nd round playoff exit at best.

Watch marc gasol do nothing different. He'll be content to let all the others step up. Grizz need to trade him.

I understand the main argument about high risk - low reward and being "upside down," but I'm not sure of the alternative for a team like the Grizzlies. Would we all be happier if you replace Conley and Gasol with much lower contracts - essentially having a team that's low risk - low reward? We don't draw big time free agents, and yet we've been in the playoffs year in and year out. This team has a good ceiling and a very low floor (with possible injuries) - I'm not sure that lowering the ceiling is the best way to balance that out.

And lowering the floor ... way down.

Look at Sixers fans, absolute misery for years and years. It's finally turning a little, but they're still not very good. Maybe if Simmons comes back ... maybe if Embiid stays healthy ... maybe if they can deal Noel ... maybe ... maybe ... maybe and they were still the worst team in the league last year and 4-10 this year.

If you are going to deal Gasol, what would you get? A bunch of draft picks? It's not like you are going to get Steph Curry, or even Klay Thompson (although ... if the GSW traded Thompson for Gasol, they'd be unbeatable). You'd have to catch lightning in a bottle practically.

Gasol is a 7'1 center averaging less than 6 rebounds per game. I love what Marc has helped do for this team over the years, but that's pathetic and he can absolutely perform better than that if he cared to. I would trade him while we still can.

A small defense to Gasol is that he plays on the wing in our offense and he is usually the guy manning up/contesting the shot rather than boxing out. I do agree that anyone that tall playing 30 minutes should probably average more than 6 rebounds a game.

I can see this being a season where Parsons, Conley, Zach, Marc, Tony never even play a game together due to various injuries. Depressing.

Wasn't really hard to predict with Conley, Gasol and Parsons coming of injury and Zbo and Tony being old
