For whom should we root
A number of people have expressed an intent to refrain from supporting ( and I guess rooting for) Rice football (and in some cases for all Rice sports.) If you are in either category, let me suggest (if you want to root for someone) you root for Stanford.
There are a number of reasons for doing so. These include:
1. There seem to be a lot of connections between Stanford and Rice.
2. Quite a number of people have degrees from both schools.
3. It is more fun to root for a winning team.
4. Stanfords AD admin is not "eaten up with dumb" and generally makes good decisions.
Stanford has quite a few teams which compete for national titles. W-Swimming. Stanford has a number of Olympic medalists, including Katie Ledecki. Football. A down year but still 9-3 in the PAC 12. Women's basketball. Another down year, but still ranked 11th in the country. Stanford has won the NACDA cup in each of the 20+ years, except one.
Some might feel this is inappropriate, but if you no longer want to root for Rice, but want to root for someone, why not root for an academic institution similar to Rice, but which has successful athletics.

I will still root for all other Rice sports.
I'll still root for Rice football, but don't really care about the results anymore. I'm sure I'll go to a few games next year, but won't go out of my way.

RE: For whom should we root
At this stage, my interest in college football has essentially vanished entirely. Antics like Baylor has been through has given me little faith that other schools even pretend that the programs are dedicated to academics, and I've pretty much followed Rice football exclusively in recent years.
I've got other things to do on Saturdays... I've barely made any effort to follow Rice closely this year. I'll pass on changing allegiances.

Sorry but could never root for Stanford. Had to endure 13 years of Stanford co-workers and Silicon Valley, and to be blunt I have had four lifetime's worth of enduring a severe school wide superiority complex that makes Harvard's look like a bunch of amateurs.

I'll continue to root for the other teams in my family's history: Notre Dame, Houston (to a lesser extent), and Sam Houston.

I, for one, intend on shifting my year-end 2016 contribution that would have gone to Rice, instead to the Prairie View A&M Band for their efforts in getting to the Macy's parade next year.
And, I guess I'll root for the school that my youngest son decides to attend next year once the admission decisions start rolling in - God help me his first choice is eaTme....
Thanks Lebron...

I am not rooting for anyone else in college football and will continue rooting for Rice in all sports. I just will no longer support Rice football or pay that much attention.

Just make sure you send it to PVAMU not TSU!

I for one am sticking to the motto of "To Rice be True."
I will still root for Rice in all sports, even football. I'll just care a little less about making it into the games. And I'll still be there with my group of young alumni tailgating. I estimate I'll be spending a minimum of $25 on Rice football next year because of that, unless something drastic changes.

Maybe this was all part of Joe's plan. Haha. Go Cardinal!

+1. Really wanted to fly and watch us play Pitt. Now I have no interest in that game.

I went to UH Law School so I watch UH on television but have not gone in person to a game since the game where I could go see the BBVA soccer stadium. I went to graduate school at A&M so I watch them on television. The last Kyle Field game I went to was in 2014 when Rice played them there.

I'm rooting for Rice. I'm not a quitter. Plus, I don't do bandwagons. And as a Cal grad alum, I damn sure don't do Stanford bandwagons.

I'm rooting for Rice as well. But I'm not going to spend any money (or much time) doing it.

Still cheer for Rice, but won't spend time or money to go to football games.
Will support Navy (retired CDR, USNR), Auburn (half my family), Alabama (other half of family) Sam Houston State.
