This absolutely plays a factor. As I mentioned in another thread, Fleck fits the ESPN personality profile to a T. He's energetic, passionate, opinionated, overly confident, etc. It's a big reason why I wouldn't be shocked if he gets a bigger job than he's really qualified for. ESPN will ride the Fleck hype train into the ground if he has even limited success.
I care about MAC football. If P.J. Press skills can advance the cause of MAC FB and
Get NIU FB an extra $550 000, lets recognize it as an NIU FB asset.
Perhaps we should be routing for P.J. To remain in the MAC?
Many people on this board forget what P.J. Did for NIU FB in 2003, afterwards and as a coach for WMU last year getting NIU to another trip to Detroit.
No-one can argue that P.J. Is an NIU graduate, captained the incredible 2003 NIU FB team and has been associated with NIU FB after 2003.
We chose, perhaps mistakenly to not invest in PJ. WMU made the investment and it has definitely paid off handsome dividend.
I wish that NIU would have ESPN game day, come to DeKalb on a Saturday.
Has only happened twice in the MAC in the past 20 years that Ican remember.
P.J.'s success at WMU has been the brightest news of NIU FB this year.
While I miss NIU being MAC top dog, am respectful and grateful for WMU alumni
Investing in P.J. .
The first $million dollar MAC coach.
Probably the first MAC coach to be offered well over $1M.
Rumors on the WMU board say that the school might offer him up to $3M a year.
Let's face it. I love NIU FB, however our athletic budget is under $900 000 a year.
We cannot afford to pay a coach like PJ and turn NIU into the next Boise State.
We are in the MAC for the forseeable future and need the MAC to increase in respect, TV publicity to increase our future FB revenues and attract and schedule more quality teams. Something which is becoming harder.
If anything, NIU should be campaigning to keep PJ in the MAC.
As long as PJ is a successful coach at WMU or any MAC west school, NIU FB will
Benefit.
