Hypothetical: Tuberville Returns
The purpose of this thread is not to elicit responses about how you are not going to watch, how you are not going to donate or how you going to become a fan of another school.

Let’s assume Tuberville is not canned this year. What direction should the next move be made with respects to the assistants staff this offseason:

A) Keep the entire staff intact. It was a re-building season and the players struggled to learn the new system but should be improved next year.
B) Fire one or more assistants (please state which ones).
C) Fire all of the assistants and start from scratch.

I voted but not sure why. If Tubbs is around next season my level of interest in UC FB will be nill.

The UC football coaches are on the road recruiting. I believe Tubs is also on the road recruiting.

RE: Hypothetical: Tuberville Returns
Tuberville has the MO of throwing a coordinator to the wolves as a sacrifice... Usually it is the DC, but this year it'll be Taylor.

Look for Tuberville to be back next year but not the OC and probably the "conditioning" coaches as well. They'll take the fall.

If Tubs is not assigned to the trash can of UC history he will have to provide an explanation and perhaps an apology for the crap he served we the fans this year.

One of the key rolls of management is the management of expectations. If this year was going to be a down year proper expectations should have been set. I recognize that would make him admit his recruiting failures.

Then there is the Gunner issue. Perhaps his silence on whatever Gunner's issues were was a principled stance. If he truly thought a RS frosh was better than Gunner - he is plain and simply an IDIOT. That fiasco demands an explanation.

This was year four. Tubs claims the program is better after year 4. How we stupid fans are to believe that is something CTT needs to explain.

My personal opinion is that Tubs and Taylor wanted an offense that required personell he did not have. It all reminds me of RDAIV up the middle. What idiocy does not recognize the capabilities of the roster?

Bob

Taylor has to go. That experiment failed miserably.

RE: Hypothetical: Tuberville Returns
I voted and appreciated the poll. I just hope these aren't the choices we're confronted with a week from now.

I suspect Taylor was fool's gold because we might have thought we were getting a bona fide NFL offensive coordinator. But the problems run so wide and deep--a defense that can't get off the field on 3rd and long, special teams that rarely get substantial yardage on returns or stuff the opponents' returners and knock the ball loose, poor clock management and a team that appears to lack spirit and passion for the game, etc., etc.

Change must come. I don't think any of us should take pleasure in someone being fired. But this is a very high risk/high reward proposition and by nature it's survival of the fittest. UC has come too far this past decade plus to slide into the abyss.

Voted for keep the staff the same. Every time we change coordinators, we do awful on that side of the ball. If we keep TT, double down with all of them.

Add for me - don't care, I've most likely watched my last TT coached UC game.

I don't really want this to be a destination job unless we get in the P5, I want guys to come here 3-4 years and work their tails off for a payday, and then they can relax at their next school.

Our buyouts can cover 1-2 years of salary. Much better than having to pay them to fire them.

I voted to keep everyone. If you are going to keep the head man that does nothing you might as well keep everyone else for the one year that they all well be here. Then the new HC can bring in his own staff.

I think he will be back.

I think the Offensive coordinator needs replacing as well as the special teams coach.

The defense made some strides but they really need to figure out how to stop giving up so many 3rd and long conversions.

And adding one or two coaches that can recruit locally wouldn't hurt either.

I actually agree. UC has to either fire the entire staff or keep everyone. There is something to say for stability as well. I always believe if you keep a coach long enough they are going to have a good to great season just based on the natural cycle of having an older mature team every so many years.

In a lot of ways this season's UC team was a lot like the 2005 team. That team was uncompetitive is every loss and struggled to beat some really bad teams in their wins. The foundation of that team eventually led UC to top 25. There enough good pieces on the roster to where 4-8 can become 8-4 next season.

RE: Hypothetical: Tuberville Returns
If TT returns, there's always the chance that things will improve just enough next year to induce Bohn to extend his contract. Then he'll feel justified in falling back into retirement mode for another couple of years at least.

He's had four years to prove himself, and he's failed -- failed utterly. Do we really want to risk having to endure more of this crap?

Care to elaborate on why you are so confident? Or is it just a gut feeling?
