Rumor: UCONN to fire Diaco and find a new HC - Utilize the Boise Method?
Hearing a rumor from someone connected to UCONN Athletic Dept that they are going to fire Diaco. They will take some time to find a new HC which will include reviewing a number of different traits; however, the search will be more restricted than normal. One critical trait that the new guy will need is to have some connection - or at least a similar philosophy - to the "Boise Way". This will include being open to gray shirting kids (if the AAC rules are kept relaxed), going after those under the radar kids who will be nail biters to pass the NCAA clearinghouse and to schedule like Boise. In the not too distant future, there will be seasons where UCONN will only have 5 home games due to the new approach of playing "anyone at any venue". The next 2 years are set, with the possibility to take the more aggressive scheduling philosophy into account starting 2019. Look for future games currently scheduled to either be moved around or canceled starting 2019 and later.

More to come as I get it.

Kind Regards,

MIKO33

So UConn will become the Boise of the East?

Changing the Turf as well?

But what happens when UConn goes to the B1G?

I guess that would leave only the ACC as a possibility.

I know this is tongue in cheek, but UCONN is in the American for the long haul. Also, talk of changing the turf is ridiculous and detracts from the pertinent info in this thread.

The turf, with matching uniforms so players can get lost, is part of the Boise Way.

Please come fully informed - otherwise, it is hard to take your otherwise excellent posts seriously.

Are they going to spray paint the turf grey?

Can we have a UConn vs Syracuse matchup there and both teams wear their "grey pajama" uniforms so they all disappear into the field? (That would be awesome)

The blue turf is a gimmick. I'm referring to the blue print as it pertains to securing talent and building the brand. Sure, the blue turf is a part of the brand for Boise, but I highly doubt the AAC or future OOC opponents would allow for the field to turn blue. Quality OOC opponents would not ink a deal with UCONN without having the games moved to Gillette, and I'm pretty sure the conference would forbid it.

They should've kept T.J. Weist and not hire Potsie Weber.

I don't have any contacts, but my guess is that UConn will fire Diaco after New Year's because his buy-out drops from 5 mil to 3.3 ish mill. My guess for targets (realistic or not) are: Rich Rod, Strong, Fleck, Brohm, Satterfield, Neal, Applewhite, Orlando, Moorehead, etc.

Fleck to Uconn huh? And why would they want coaches who either just got canned or are close like Strong, Rich Rod and Applewhitehead?
Cheers!

Unlikely on Fleck. I want Rich Rod because he can win at the mid-major level (won with WVU at the lower power conference level).

RE: Rumor: UCONN to fire Diaco and find a new HC - Utilize the Boise Method?
UConn announced that it is looking for an OC. They didn't confirm that Diaco is staying, but it was implied, as they wouldn't hire an OC before hiring a new HC. Fleck would have been ideal at UConn, but it looks like we are stuck with Diaco for another year, so his buyout goes down.

As for Boise, UConn is absolutely never going to take the Boise approach. Nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is that admissions are so strict now, that many players can't come to UConn. Might they loosen it? Maybe, but only to the level used by other, normal P5 type schools, not down to the Boise level. Keeping academic excellence is a high priority.
