RE: ODU to the Effing Bahamas for our first bowl ever
Don't know the MAC tie-ins but if it's Toledo or Ohio that might be an interesting bowl. Since Western Michigan is playing in NY6 bowl, it will probably be one the 6-6 MAC teams. ODU should win

You have to stay at a hotel that's around 500 bucks a night and a flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Nassau is still like 400 bucks.
I have always said I don't get why the bowl doesn't do a trip that includes staying in South Florida and having one of the gambling day cruises take people over to the game and back after?
Do it as a package.
Great Idea but we still need a passport. How about annexing them?(Not my idea, one of our fans suggested that)
Apparently if the cruise starts and ends at the same port — a closed-loop cruise — you're OK with a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID

Good to know. I had no idea that is the case.

Ditto. Another ODU poster mentioned it and sure enough, it's true. I presumed that pretty much every excursion that resulted in setting foot in another country required a passport.

I was not saying we had it worse, just pointing out you aren't the first team to get boned on your first bowl bid and you won't be the last.

ODU and us fans should be proud of the season and the chance to extend it. But it's a little dispiriting to be going to the same bowl at 9-3 that they might well have gone to at 6-6.
Don't you guys have 2 FCS wins in your 9-3 record?
uhhh. no? Why would you think that?
Trolling to me

Nope, serious question. Saw where you beat Hampton and UMass. Thought they were both FCS

How do you go about that? Because I would definitely do that to support. Remember the process?

Call your ticket office, I would say your AD Wood S. Would be able to set that up if he has not already.

So with CUSA tied with the bowl and the Battle 4 Atlantis, the next logical step is to move the football title game and basketball tournament there, right?
Because you can't spell Bahamas without the S and A in CUSA!

As a young alumni with little money to travel places, this is incredibly disappointing.
As an ODU fan who wants to see the program grow and bring in new fans, this is incredibly disappointing.
I can't wait to read the articles this year mentioning how terrible attendance to the Bahamas Bowl is. And I can't wait to see "Worst Bowl Attendance" and "ODU's First Bowl Game" placed right next to each other. I can't wait to hear the dead air over the broadcast since there will be no crowd noise or bands to fill that space. And I can't wait to see conversations the next time ODU is bowl eligible stating that "ODU's fans don't travel wel/Can't fill their allotment/don't support their team"
We get one "First Bowl Game" and we blow it on this. I am incredibly disappointed.

Back when we punched our bowl ticket I remember reading we get ODAF points for buying tickets through ODU. I will be happy to buy a ticket or two to support the cause and get some ODAF points in a reaseating year despite us getting sent to play on a rock in the ocean. Hopefully if enough do that we won't ever have to go back there.

I don't think that future bowl invitations will be contingent on getting several thousand alumni to the Bahamas. Just win.
Not ideal for great attendance, but exciting nonetheless.

I hear ya, and understand. Thats why ODU needs to be smart about this. I like the idea of buying tickets, donating them and getting a commemorative one in return. I love the idea of charting a 1 day cruise out of Jacksonville or Miami. Drive down. Cruise over, take in the game and come back to Florida. I would definitely be interested in that. If we had a small ship and a 1,000 - 2,000 people that seems possible. A captain could make over $100,000 in less than 40 hours.

ODU nor any other team will be judged by attendace for a game in which requires a passort to get to and a very expensive trip to boot. No school has had more than a few hundred at this game to date. It's not about attendance on this game, it's a massive advertising campaign for Nassau

This game will do pretty good TV ratings. The paid attendance will be strong. Recruits are going to see our guys chilling on the beach for a week.

Great idea. I'd love to support ODU's first bowl game but can't make it.
I just emailed Dr. Selig and suggested replicating WKU's efforts; hopefully ODU can put together something similar.
Wood is an amazing AD and should do a great job making that happen. Congratulations on your first bowl game and enjoy it

Wood is awesome. I emailed one time an idea bout showing the football game (early football game @FAU) in our big blue room (basketball arena) before the basketball team played VCU. He responded immediately and then set it up. Thought it was a nice touch. Heck, I thought it was nice that he even responded.

Here is my ticket from the Miami game that I could not attend (can't find the Bahamas one) WKU did the same thing for that game. While WKU might have only traveled 5-7k to the game, just as many people bought the tickets and had them donated

I don't think anyone who pays attention will hold it against ODU or whoever it plays. It's a bowl game in another country where transportation isn't as cut-and-dried as it is going to Florida or New Orleans. I'd be shocked if any combination of G5 schools would turn out in force there. Same thing for Hawaii — has that bowl *ever* had good attendance when the Rainbow Warriors weren't playing?
Now, not showing up in Boca or Annapolis would be a lot more damning.

Wood was always around and willing to talk to the fans, we hated to see him go but would not trade who we have now for anybody!
