Still can't believe we beat La Tech.....
Damn, what a roller coaster of a season. Miserable losses coupled with some solid wins. Kentucky ended up being a solid team.

Glad I was wrong about "this team isn't winning another game this season" comment a few weeks ago. Gonna miss Nick Mullins, what an incredible season finale he gave us. Let's hope he can repeat that in a bowl game.

For what it's worth, the Sporting News has us projected playing Houston in the Bahamas Bowl. These projections are all over the map.

Me too. After our home loss to Charlotte, I said we won't win a single game the rest of the year. I mean, how can we destroy La Tech at home but get also get destroyed by Charlotte at home?? That's USM for you...

the difference was we didn't have a QB turn the ball over 5 times.

Good point.

Will miss Nick, he was a great Golden Eagle and ambassador for the University. Kid has guts and led teams full of purely FCS talent for 2 full (miserable) seasons and had a fantastic year last year.

That being said, he was never quite good "enough" to leave with a lasting legacy (championship). Not meant to be a dig.....just that he isn't Austin Davis.

I think Austin had a better team surrounding him and better coaching. Takes more than one player. Then again, Austin was almost like a duel threat QB, he could actually run it when needed....and knew when to do it. Nick is possibly the most accurate QB I've ever seen but was limited to pocket passing. If the pocket collapsed, so did he. But still, I think overall, we had better talent surrounding Austin. Just my two cents.

Don't know that he would not have been in the same situation. I think his pure QB skilled may have been better than Austins.

Good point. But also, Charlotte manhandled our o-line...LT couldn't touch Nick. Go figure...

I don't get how so many people belittle what Nick has done. He broke nearly all of Austin's records and no Southern Miss QB not named Nick Mullens has won a game since Austin. Time will tell, but I think his legacy will be pretty similar to Austin's (and I'm an Austin Davis fan btw).

That's all true as well. It's also true that there was "enough" talent to win the conference last year......perhaps because the conference is so bad now.

Keep in mind that Austin also won the conference when it was better (not good, but better) than it is now.....including a championship game win over the undefeated #6 team in the country. A blowout win on the road. Austin has a legacy here. There's no doubt about that. Perhaps Nick does too.....the kid overachieved and was given absolute crap to work with for 2 full years.

I'm not. I like Nick.....how can one not like him? But legacies are largely created by winning championships. And he didn't. I'm not belittling him, I'm just being objective about it.

He did but up some video game numbers.....but also keep in mind that we literally could not run the ball AT ALL for 2 years because the offensive line was so freaking terrible. The offense was obviously conducive for big passing numbers.....more so than Fedora's, which was very balanced.

ODU has been invited to accepted he Bahamas Bowl. We won't be playing Houston there (or likely anywhere...they'll get one of the better aaaack bowls).

You are correct. You didn't really criticize him but many people do. They say he isn't this and he isn't that. And it is true that he didn't win a championship but he was a huge part of getting us out of the abyss that EJ left us in, eventually getting us to the championship game and put up monster numbers in the process. I'm not saying he's the greatest of all time, but some people want to act like he is slightly better than Tommy Waters.

I think what Mullens has done in his 4 years in nothing short of amazing. Considering as you say that he had to bring us back from the horrors of E Johnson. He also had to deal with awful O line play for most of his career. I would certainly put him in my top 5 USM QB's.

..yes, considering the Bull **** he endured one of the best...without question, his skills and knowledge of the game at this point are far and beyond Favre and Collier....most NFL scouts compare his style and his personality to Eli Manning.
