Apparently thumping a team 46-14 isn't good enough to get any conference weekly honors. Winning against the worst team by 1 point or beating Towson, rookie of the week!

I used to get pretty irritated at our players getting snubbed for honors but then I realized not only would I rather they perform at an elite level as a team, I'm certain they would rather perform better as a sum vs the parts.

Another factor, we have so much talent it's really hard for any one player to stand out compared to his teammates, particularly on defense. A good problem to have, especially when it leads to #1 rankings and national championships. 03-2thumbsup

Imagine what it's like to be a softball pitcher for one of the other CAA teams with Megan Good still around. 03-thumbsup

2016: MSU : 80-7
2017: NSU : 75-14

2016: UNH : 42-39

Does anyone seriously expect us to give up 39 to UNH this year or win by a single field goal?

Summarizing the games above (excluding 2016 UNH since we haven't played them yet this year):

2016 Overall: average score 41-22 or +19 PPG
2017 Overall: average score 41-11 or +30 PPG

2016 FCS: average score 44-17 or +27 PPG

2016 CAA: average score 31-18 or +13 PPG

It’s like we didn’t just win 46-14 or something. Both of their scores were a bit fluky and it’s was their true starter McKee (who started most of this season) against our back up defense. Hell that first TD may just be the most **** luck TD pass I’ve ever seen in my life.

Yep, as fans of the Dukes, we have 1st world problems. Morning dew on the deck of a ship does not mean there's a leak.

Hard to keep a shutout when you play 60 guys at an away game.

Anyone know if Curtis Oliver sustained an injury? Saw Bethea in and out during the 2nd half playing alongside Robinson and Moreland (not mop up time).

Also noticed that Gillespie, who is listed in the game notes as # 79 ( and Jackson's backup at right tackle), was wearing #82 on the sidelines. Did he get moved to a TE, DL or something? Never seen an offensive lineman with a number in the 80s before.

He played in the game wearing 79, he was in at RT in the 4th quarter. His dad told me he had been jumping between the 2 numbers, but wearing 79 for games he might actually play. Are you allowed to change during the game? I just don't understand it, but I'll see his dad again Saturday so I'll ask him.

Edit - texted his dad, he wears 82 on the XP/FG team because he lines up at TE. He wears 79 when playing OL.

That was the way it was back in the day, my father would wear one number as a receiver on offense, run to the sideline, change jersey's, and get back on the field for defense. This was a common thing years ago, pretty rare today.

Ok- that makes sense. I saw him enter the game w/ 5 minutes left wearing 79.
This was where I saw him on the sidelines (after the 1st TD) earlier wearing 82...at the 37:12 mark.

I had no idea this was even a possibility. One player, two numbers. 04-rock
It has been a while since JMU received a targeting ejection, but now we know the solution. Just throw a different jersey on them.

To qoute Lee Corso, "Not so fast." The number change must be relayed to the ref so he knows who is wearing the double number each time the change takes place, so all ref are aware of the change in jerseys. JMU has done this many times in the past. They even have velcro name tags for the jerseys. They have even covered numbers with other numbers to accomodate players on special teams so as not to have the same number on the field. If we tried a switch Im sure NCAA reprocusions would be terrible.

Marshall had a very good game with less indecision and more hitting holes and exploding. The offense seems to be coming to him now as second nature. The O line is gelling at the right time and there is more rhythm developing with the starters. Yesterday was the first day that we had Kloo, Alls, and Miller together in a game. Kloo had limited reps coming off of the illness. He will round into game shape next week. He was wide open on the TD catch that Cheatham in the 1st Q. We are so far ahead of where we were last year at this time and that's scary. We have never had a defense that is this good and they will only get better. We have not had special teams that has been this good. Our offense is very good as well and as the O line continue to gel, and they will, this engine will click on 8 cylinders very soon. Clicking on 6 cylinders has not been a problem.

Are you comparing to last year or all time? Definitely better than last year but there were some damn good Mickey defenses over the years. This defense can stand with them though.

I am comparing this defense to any defense we have had. MM had some very good defenses but not as good as the defense in 2017 in my humble opinion.

I agree with you. This is the best JMU defense in school history and Ankrah in particular. He will be playing in the NFL next year if he stays healthy.

I saw that this was the most lopsided final score in the JMU/WM series history.

Yes, but the big win in 2008 felt more lopsided for some reason.
