RE: Huskies @ Sycamores - The rematch
Still early, but have to agree, not a good start with what was supposed to be a defining year for MM.

It's a little bit too simple to just say we don't 'shoot well'. The offense has no rhythm, the shooting %'s are bad because we're not taking easy and open shots. It's all difficult and off balance. Maric is the one guy that can get decent position and some easy close range shots, but he disappears on the road? As someone else said, Armstead can create his own shot, but it's usually a difficult one, and he's either hot or ice cold. Where the heck is Wilson??? Showed flashes of being a star last year.

+1. Monty is a very nice guy, but he is not the coach to take us to the next level. Either he is recruiting kids with insufficient talent (which I know is not the case), he does not have the ability to train them/coach them up, or his system just does not work. Whatever it is, it's been 6 years and that's more than enough. Time to move on.

When we take them, we miss them.

It's too early to get down on the boys. There's bright spots here. Conference play is all that matters anyway.

The announcers were Indiana St students. They were not good. Both of them said Illinoise multiple times. Mixing up Maric for Siu was ok, because he was wearing his number for some reason. My favorite was when the PBP guy said "that's some kind of traveling". They both tried too hard to be clever instead of just giving us the ABC's of the game. Sure makes you appreciate the good announcers.

RE: Huskies @ Sycamores - The rematch
Sadly I have to agree with all the questioning of how much longer Monty needs to be here. The only player that has gotten even marginally better on offense is Porter and that's because he's making his 3s, which could go away at any time. The rest of the offense is just as stagnant and bad as before. Somehow a true freshman that was a "throw in" for this class was the only player that seemed to be playing with an urgency. We had an unbelievable looking freshman class last year and they look to be completely dead in the water right now. I've been a big Monty supporter but I really have to wonder if a better offensive coach would take this team to another level...the plodding half court B1G offense is NOT working

I suppose I could have clarified in my post that I don't think Monty is going anywhere...but I am starting to think we could be better off with someone else leading the team

RE: Huskies @ Sycamores - The rematch
The last three years in home games they look like a real team capable of winning the MAC. In road games they play soft, no urgency, go through long scoring droughts. Even when they have built good leads on the road they always give them up. I have never seen a program that is this different in home and road games.

IMO, that's on the coaching staff.

So NIU has two coaches that people are unhappy with that are going to be around awhile.
It is going to be a long few years.

You just HAD to remind me! Now I'm going to have to make my #1 Christmas gift on my wish list be a cute young girl to sit on my lap for my remaining years so I have something to live for and smile at. Certainly, watching Huskie sports won't do it. 03-weeping 03-hissyfit

What does that say about the AD?

I don't think I have ever been so wrong about a team than it appears I was about this team. I am just baffled by what has happened and I cannot figure out what has caused this regression in so many NIU players. Is it simply the leadership of Baker that has made the difference? I just am desperate for answers, and can come up with nothing.

Why on earth was his contract extended to 20-21 and how come this wasn't made public?

I have no affiliation with NIU other than a fan and ex student. I don't know the inner workings. I guess it wasnt announced because of the state budget crisis but I'm sure it's public knowledge. It was said at one of the Mondays with Monty lunches. The 21 wins last year probably had something to do with a extension. I don't think anyone was surprised that there was a extension.

Seems very doubtful that it is public knowledge. If it was a wise or needed move, what difference would the state budget crisis make? Seriously, the budget crisis is going to be increased or lessened by that move? Not making it public makes it sound more like something being glossed over.
Because you believe moves like this are public knowledge, can you -- or anyone else on here -- tell me if any other Huskie coaches going into the 2016-17 season have had contracts extended or broken?
