We really can't complain too much as App was likely the largest driving force for adding CCU.

UNCG, no thanks.

Andy, you gotta get past that SoCon prejudice and consider what's best for App. Name another non-football school within 3 hours of Boone that's a better choice. Don't think we were a driving force behind their admission.

Davidson. They're easily the best non-football school within maybe a six- or seven-hour radius of Boone.

Of course, you meant a school the SBC could actually get. No way they'd leave for any league other than the Big East.

I'd put UNCW as a more attractive non-football school than UNCG, but they're farther than the 3-hour radius, too. Besides, I'm doubtful UNCG would have interest in the SBC over staying in the SoCon or holding out for the Colonial.

All in all, there is no reversing decisions already made, and I'm personally very happy Coastal Carolina was chosen over EKU, Liberty, or the hypothetical UNCG or UNCW (who also wouldn't likely leave the Colonial for the SBC, anyway). Coastal is pretty darn far for a "travel partner," and that's a fair point. They're not much closer, if at all, than Georgia State is. But they are excellent from an all-around athletics standpoint, and they help meet the interests of the conference as a whole much better than any of the non-football options closer to Boone.

Really the only thing that would make sense would be for geographic realignment between the Sun Belt and C-USA. After three years, it's still ridiculous to me, with nothing at all against the fine programs in the western part of our league, that we are in a conference with Texas and Louisiana schools but not Charlotte, ODU, and Marshall, while those schools share a conference with UTEP and three other Texas schools. But that is another topic altogether.

They could potentially be swayed to the SBC if they ever decided to upgrade from D-IAA non-scholly to FBS...but that's probably not likely. They'd sure bring some roundball greatness to the Belt though.

Campbell University, they just announced they are upgrading to scholarship FCS from the non-scholarship Pioneer conference that Davidson is also in. Down the road they could move further to FBS. I live five miles from Buies Creek and can be in Boone in 3 hours and 15 minutes. The Raleigh Durham airport is 45 minutes away and Greensboro is about an hour and a half. It is about 2 and a half hours from Conway SC.

Campbell is no Davidson though. Don't really have much appeal except for, "Kinda close to App".

Davidson is older and prestigious academically. Davidson has a good basketball tradition. Campbell is growing and upgrading rapidly. They have a law school, and in the last five years added a medical school, nursing school and engineering school. Their Trust Management Program is very highly regarded. Sports wise they have added a new arena for basketball and a football stadium that can easily be expanded when the time comes. Their baseball is the strongest sport there. It is pretty darn good. They also have a fairly new baseball facility that is adding more seating and an artificial surface this year. After years of getting by on the cheap there has been a new attitude and drive as Campbell sees what it will take to be a healthy, prosperous private university. They have a ways to go, especially when it comes to investing in strong coaching staffs in all their sports.

Davidson's also got (probably) THE premier D-IAAA (non-scholly) football program in America, too...

No that is just not correct. Davidson hasn't had a winning record in years and usually finishes in the bottom half of the Pioneer Conference standing. I don't have any idea where you got your information but it is totally wrong. Heck Campbell restarted their program in 2008 and they are 4-4 with Davidson.

I guess I shoulda looked at some current data before I made that declaration. I had that idea from the early part of this century after the same company recommending UAB shut its program down was telling USA to start a D-IAAA non-scholly team and play in the Pioneer League. Back then Dayton just destroyed everyone they played it seemed and they were supposedly one of the conference's long-time powers.
