This game should rock - great for the MAC

That should mean a crowd of 75K in a 65K stadium. 03-lmfao

The Attendance for the bowl game vs Purdue was 46177. It was a fantastic crowd.

I went to that game. It was a great crowd, the fact that this crowd will be even better is awesome. Go Broncos!

One of the knocks against the MAC is lack of attendance (and ability to bring fans to bowls), so although not a "true" factor in the Cotton Bowl decision, a big WMU win along with a great crowd does nothing but help their cause with the committee.

I borrowed this from the WMU board:

"RE: Let's Make Ford Field Waldo East!!!
I just heard Robin Hook say on a Lansing radio show that over 42k tickets have been sold. Unreal."

Is this true? If so then that house is going to be Rowing on Friday!

Is there a link to the site that shows tickets available?
I have navigated Ford's site, but only able to find the Sold Old sections. Nothing on how many tickets are available.

Well, it also says 48 tickets left for Quick Lane Bowl, so ...

Ford Field (and the Lions) do have Flash Seats where one can use their mobile device (or even a credit card) to get into the game.

I was at the Lions' Thanksgiving game, and just showed the credit card I used to purchase my ticket, and it printed out my ticket at the gate.

I'm sure the Lions can do similar for their season ticket holders where one gets an emailed ticket and have it scanned at the gate.

RE: will the MACC draw a record crowd?
IDK, but I just 'requested' two tickets and they were in section 337, upper corner, on the WMU side.

Folks familiar with Ford Field might note that there isn't a 300 section behind the home team side (that is all suites) which would be where Ohio will be.

So one might expect the only remaining 300 section seats are in the corners and in the end zones.

IF Ford Field hasn't blocked out big chunks of seats for some reason (maybe for Lions season ticketholders), the crowd will be (h)uge.

Based on what appears to be sold, blocked out, etc., about 55 - 60K seats are accounted for. The upper end zones, 300 level, is about 5K seats.

there are many more unsold tickets. having worked for an arena i can tell you there are always blocks of seats held off the computers to create the perception of scarcity. this creates a fear of loss (not being able to attend) which induces people to buy tickets faster. in addition, there are tickets held for "important" people (Lions ticket holders).

I agree that the more conservative approach might be to accept the 42K number discussed on radio and say 'north of 42K with sales continuing and hoping up for a nice walk up crowd.'

Most people who are going should have their tickets by now.

I'd guess the final tally will be 45 - 50K.

The key thing is that they actually be used and not distributed (e.g., to Lions season ticket holders) and not used.

As far as television, the tickets which went first, were lower deck (sideline, end zones) to the schools and those are diehards who will definitely go.

If it is as I'm reading in this thread and the thread on our board I would say 55,000 will probably be the attendance.

They are most likely holding seats for some people but it would make no sense for them to be "holding" all of the remaining higher priced tickets from the lower bowl and selling upper bowl seats one day before the game.

Current report is that 47k+ have been sold. Still 23 hours, 20 minutes until game time.

I think it is great. This is why the MAC moved the game to Detroit. I do wish the games were played at home from an NIU standpoint, but if Toledo, CMU, and WMU have great teams, the game will be well attended. (I left EMU off for obvious reasons)

RE: will the MACC draw a record crowd?
This is a huge statement for the MAC.

The Cotton Bowl is on the line. Whether you are from the state of Michigan, a fan of the MAC this is a big game. Both AAC and MWC fans are tuning in hoping for the upset. Ratings will be through the roof.

47,000 in attendance isn't just a MAC Championship record. This is a new all time record for a MAC conference game by over 10,000 people.

It might even draw more than ACC and PAC Championship games.

May set the tone for future MAC Championships to see bigger numbers like it did for the Motor City Bowl before they gave up on the MAC.

04-cheers

Although not part of the "rankings", having a huge crowd along with a convincing WMU win will help the "optics" of the MAC and I think greatly improve their chances of being picked by the bowl committee for the Cotton, hopefully without waiting for the Army-Navy game (which would screw up countless bowl match-up announcements and negatively impact the attendance at those games)

I'm going to predict an attendance tonight of 48,226.

P.S. that isn't a random number I chose off the top of my head...
