Very true about the hate. Don't see law enforcement on the field very often.

There is a real edge to this game every year now....some of the hits passed today were bombs. Kids getting up off of the turf after a tackle shaking their heads. Kudos to both staffs for getting their teams under control at the end. It was on a knifes edge there for awhile...

Especially with that wild ending with both teams celebrating at different points, and the refs standing around confused.

Imagine if there was no instant replay.

Assuming there was no instant replay does these rules matter, could the gamer result be appealed.

Rule 4-1-3 Ball declared dead
A live ball becomes dead and an official shall sound his whistle or declare it dead:
(j) when, before a change of team possession on fourth down or a try, a Team A fumble is caught or recovered by a Team A player other than the fumbler.

Rule 7-2-2-a Exception 2
On fourth down before a change of team possession, when a Team A fumble is caught or recovered by a Team A player other than the fumbler, the ball is dead. If the catch or recovery is beyond the spot of the fumble, the ball is returned to the spot of the fumble.

Seems like the ball was dead the second the big O Lineman grabbed it, and it was not a first down. The zebras in this league are clueless, and yes this crew will be retained.

Moot point now. Truth is, had we punched it in for that second TD instead of running the same play up the middle four times for you guys to stuff us we would have won. Or if we had a guy/girl/mule/little white bunny who could kick field goals we would have won. Or if we had an OC who could call plays that let us score in the red zone, we could have won. You get the idea. We have multiple problems and you guys exploited them. You won. That's football.

The ruling on the field was that the ball was lateraled rather than fumbled. Laterals that hit the ground are considered backwards passes and not fumbles, so they were right in not blowing it dead. Review could only prove it was a forward lateral and not a fumble. It clearly went backwards, so that wasn't a question.

Any ruling like that is considered a judgement call and can't be appealed. They could send the play into the league office for a clarification, but the result could not be overturned.

The refs mistake was sitting there with their hands on their hips for a minute trying to decide what to call the play on the field. They clearly did not account for the possibility of a lateral there.

If he hadn't been down, it was backwards pass and those are always legal unless thrown out of bounds to stop the clock.

Cajuns have won twice there since 1992. If you beat them, it certainly won't be a shock.

It's a fun series no doubt. The home team literally almost always wins.

As far as A-State in 2017 they certainly will have talent, and the expected drop-off in the play OL as a result of losing all their starters does not look like it is going to be as big a deal as expected.

Defense loses some outstanding players but should still be fast and athletic. Developing depth is the issue.

I expect they will again be in the hunt for the SBC Championship.

At some point the Juco train stops and it isn't pretty.

RE: Arkansas State at Louisiana game thread...
Maybe, maybe not, it is not just Juco's with them. They will again add a mixture of transfers, and some talented red-shirts, and a recruiting class.

I do agree that this formula almost insures a learning curve, which pretty much insures a slow start because their coaches have other priorities in the off season, and really are not especially good at coaching, but after 3-4-5 games that talent will show up.

In fact if my memory serves me correct the numbers I saw showed that they may be even more talented than this team.

Of course now that I've retired I will not be able to see how they compare to other SBC teams, so I cannot say they will have the most talented roster of player in the SBC in 2017.

I can say that based on the past three years that coaching will not be a plus for them so expect Anderson & Company to come up short in a game or two or like this year three that based on their talent they should have won.
