Baylor is a better job, flat out. Even with the scandal, it's a better job.
But Morris isn't shooting to be the HC of Baylor. He's shooting to be the HC of a major program, like an A&M - his alma mater - or UT or something like that. If he takes the Baylor job he's going to be stuck there for the next four years, at least, building that thing back up to be marketable to the type of job he wants. Hell, all the NCAA has to do is find a way to slap BU with a two-year probation and he's going to have a three year recuiting hole in talent he may never recover from.
If he stays at SMU one more year he's looking at a possible 10 win season and competing for a conference championship. He does that and he's the Herman of 2017. The jobs will come to him, including possibly A&M.
Dude needs to stay one more year.

Who says he's locked in for 4 years? And he's not really that close to competing for a conference championship in the AAC anyway.

Because he isn't going to step in there and win eight games next year. Long story short Baylor is going to take a step back next year and the rest of the Big XII will be better and nobody is going to chase after him when he goes 4-8 and then 6-6 the next few years. If he takes the job he is there three years at least.
And say what you want, I think we are a contender in the AAC next year - just need a kicking game.

Care to retract that statement?

how SMU fared this weekend doesn't change the fact... Baylor is not a desirable situation for a coach looking to move into a major program. The new coach is not going to be given the same amount of latitude as Art Briles was given, and without that latitude, he will have to win with a smaller recuiting pool. I see Baylor as a middle of the pack Big 12 job that has traditionally been a lower tiered Big 12 job until Art Briles was hired. Chances are... that's where it is returning and who wants to be driving that train.

This I can see. If Morris was a sure bet, he should probably wait around a year or two for the biggie. But Morris is NOT a sure bet. He's projecting where his stock will be in 1-2 years at SMU versus the current benjamins that are on the table. And he's selling short on SMU. Can't blame him one bit, because I would sure not bet on SMU winning anything over the next 2 years that would lead to a TAMU type of job.

He is betting on SMU, just extended through 2023.

Good for him. He's a good coach, surely will not stay that long, but SMU isn't that bad of a place for him to grow.

Baylor is in a bad spot right now.

Only 1 recruit for 2017 and not a ton left from 2016. Basically 2 recruiting classes are gone. Gonna be tough to rebuild especially if Herman can do anything with Texas. Baylor did invest in facilities over the last few years(actually have better facilities than UT right now) so that is a plus.

Nope.

Say what you want about the last few games, Memphis included, but we've gone from 1-11 to 2-10 to 5-7, and everybody returns next year. Recruiting has been strong the past couple of years, we've been able to redshirt well. The schedule is more favorable and the defense is better than it was last year. We'll be deep across the board and there isn't a team on the schedule that won't be beatable.
A few years ago people would have laughed at the idea of Memphis being successful in football but Fuente took Porters mess and turned them into conference champions and darkhorse CFP contenders. The same thing is happening in Dallas right now.

And oh, BTW
