RE: 2017 ETSU Football Schedule
Actually they would. Know why? Over 121 completed seasons of intercollegiate football they have multiple national titles, have the second most conference championships of anyone in their league behind Alabama, and spent their resources growing their fan bases. It's also a bigger university and has a bigger alumni base, so yes, they're going to have more fans. This is a four year old program resurrected from a previous one that didn't have a lot of sustained, championship level success on the field.
As far as the hype goes, that's a resources issue. Large scale, power 5 programs have them, FCS programs don't. Plus, Coach Torbush is older than dirt and old school, you know that. He's not an information guy like we see today. Athletic media relations has three FTE's some G.A.'s and I'm sure some undergrads hopefully getting paid in more than stale cookies, cold pizza and experience. 03-wink Tennessee has an entire department dedicated to doing nothing but making videos.
As far as the fans go, winning, and playing in meaningful games will get the crowds more into it, and it'll get more people to come out. That's ALWAYS the cure all. Everybody likes a winner. Prime example is basketball. Bartow's last year they couldn't draw flies to a turd. Last season they had sell outs and a whole bunch of other games that were close to sellouts, playing on the same campus.

Listen, I'm not comparing the 2 schools.... apples and oranges, but we DO put out a hype video. We DO send out some information, video clips etc.... I'm just saying it could be more. Heck, get the guy that has been sending out the videos on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and snapchat to just do a little more of it. Have him do it in January while they are lifting instead of just the 2 weeks of camp this summer. Tell me who is practicing at the mike linebacker. Who holds for PAT's.... just ANY information that helps us get to know the team. That's all I'm saying, we don't need to call our shots and predict number of wins or something like that, just some information about the team that keeps us talking about them. Heck I know the name of the 4th string water boy for the orange team. I don't even know who rolled out with the 1's today at practice....
My statement about attendance for the orange team was that they wouldn't have 100k at every game if they didn't hype it up. I live 18 miles from that place and I hear all the crap. Oh you have to come watch the Indiana State game because it's gonna' be a barnburner. They HAVE to hype that game up or there won't be anywhere near 100k there.
Here is what the players have heard for the last 3 years. yr1 Get excited football is back. yr2 Get excited, we are back in the SoCon. yr3 Get excited we have a new stadium. Listen to every time there is an interview, and those are the 3 things they talk about. Give us some meat and potatoes with what little we do get.....

Bucdad, your kid deserves a good atmosphere. It's up to everyone in the Buc community to give him that. We need to be all on Facebook, Twitter, whatever - boosting this team and its players and getting folks interested.

I went online to order some single game tickets for the opener and for some reason all the games are "password protected." I have to enter a password to order. What the heck is this???

Single game tickets are still only available to season ticket holders. I guess they will be opening up to the rest of fans soon.

Correct. Next week they'll open up to the public. It may be cheaper to spend the $100 for season tickets than trying to get tickets for that first game if people don't get them the day they open to the public.

By the way, regarding how to boost attendance, etc., I think we need to follow App State's plan and be planning for FBS. Being able to bring in someone like Miami or beating high caliber schools would really legitimize ETSU football in the eyes of a lot of students and community members. It takes money and support to do that, but if folks know that is the plan, it could result in some lasting support. We've got to win at the FCS level first. You can't move up going 5-6 every year.

Problem solved.
I suggested this in committee, and it didn't fly, although it wasn't voted out as resoundingly as you might think. I know that Troy, UL Monroe, UL Lafayette and Minnesota (to name a few) decided to serve beer at the games. At Minnesota, it's been a big success:

Closer to home, the announcement on Troy:

However, I can't find anything about how successful it's been @ Troy, which is a program a bit more similar to ours, in that's a smaller program in a smaller league. To be clear, on September 2nd, if you want to drink a beer at the tailgate, do it. Pour it in a cup, no one will say anything. Just don't do any keg stands, and don't get in a fight. I truly think this could be a good thing, because you keep everyone in the stadium at halftime, instead of half of the crowd running back to the tailgate and downing a bunch of liquor in a very short period of time. Let's get a little dose of reality, understand beer consumption (as well as liquor) is going to happen at football games. Isn't it better if it's regulated and under control?

Ohio University just applied for a liquor permit at their games.

I don't drink. But, our teetotaling heritage here in East Tennessee is gone. There's wine in grocery stores, liquor by the drink in Elizabethton, beer sold at Cardinal Park and beer sold at community events in Jonesborough.

If it makes the atmosphere more lively, sell beer at Buc games. They had it at the BMS game last year and there wasn't a problem I observed.

Is it a money maker for colleges where it is done? In addition, could the game tickets be jacked and sold as admission/lottery tickets as well?

You can't force people to buy a lottery ticket.

Yes. It helps drive attendance and will cut down dramatically on binge drinkers/people sneaking liquor in.
