Cacok Snags First CAA Player-of-the-Week Honor
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Devontae Cacok of UNCW is one of the rising stars in the Colonial Athletic Association and the sophomore forward was recognized early Monday by league officials following two outstanding games last week.
The 6-7, 240-pounder from Riverdale, Ga., was named CAA Player-of-the-Week after averaging 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in a pair of Seahawk victories. UNCW downed Eastern Kentucky, 78-69, in its road debut and then trimmed East Tennessee State, 79-68, on Sunday to climb to 3-0 on the young season.
"We're all very happy for Devontae," said UNCW third-year Head Coach Kevin Keatts, the CAA's two-time Coach-of-the-Year. "He's worked very hard to improve his game and it shows. Devontae has the potential to be one of the CAA's best players and we're looking forward to watching him develop. He continues to get better and better each week."
Cacok recorded a double-double vs. EKU with 14 points and a team-high 13 rebounds and then added a career-best 17 points with eight boards vs. ETSU. The Alpharetta High School graduate went 15-of-20 from the field for the week.
Cacok is the team's third leading scorer at 15.0 points per game and top rebounder with 12.3 rebounds each contest. He is shooting 75 percent from the floor and has collected 26 offensive rebounds in three outings.
The Seahawks leave early Thanksgiving Day to compete in the Challenge In Music City, taking on Middle Tennessee State on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in the first of three games at the Nashville Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn.
