Coaching in Texas universities
Just how many schools in the state will have a first (or second) year coach next season? There could be lots of turnover indeed.

1. Texas - Charlie Strong is out, although it appears he will coach the regular season finale vs TCU.
2. Baylor - Jim Grobe was given a one year deal, I'm not sure he'd accept another year even if they offered it.

3. UTEP - Sean Kugler is 17-31 in 4 years of 5 year contract. 3-8 this year, host North Texas this week. I'm not familiar with UTEP, but his seat has to be very hot.
4. Rice - David Bailiff was given contract extension through 2018 season after winning 10 games in 2013. Dropped to 8 wins in 2014, 5 wins in 2015, and only 3 wins this year, with game at Stanford remaining. Seat is hot, but will Rice buyout 2 years of pay?
5. Texas A&M - Kevin Sumlin hasn't won more than 8 games without Johnny Manziel at QB, and hasn't had a winning record in SEC play since his first year (4-3 this year pending game against LSU). If he loses to LSU for a 5th time, his seat will be very warm.
6. Texas Tech - After being demolished by Iowa State, it could be his contract is only thing keeping him safe, still owed $9.4M, not sure that Tech can buyout that much, but it's still possible.

7. Houston - with openings at UT and LSU, and possibly at other big schools, Tom Herman is likely headed out of Houston to earn more money.
8. SMU - Chad Morris has turned around SMU in just his second season, after June Jones left nothing to work with. He's still only 5-6 this season, so I'm not sure if he gets poached by a bigger school. He's also an A&M alum, and would be a candidate there if that job opens.

9. UTSA - Frank Wilson is in his first year, he'll be back next year
10. Texas State - Everett Withers is in his first year, he'll be back next year
11. North Texas - Seth Littrell is in his first year, he'll be back next year

12. TCU - Gary Patterson isn't going anywhere. He could theoretically be the only coach in the state that isn't in their first two seasons at their school.

Biggest shocker is Kliff Kingsbury busting at Texas Tech. That seemed like a slam dunk hire.

He seems extremely popular with the female population.

Tech doesn't play any defense.

If I'm a good coach and I have other options, I'm not going to take the UT job.

That fan base and group of boosters is terrible.

Why should we win every game? Because we are UT and we live in Austin.

Some of them think UT is the best job in the country. It's basically the opposite of that.

Perfect time to take the Tx job. They are at bottom and will be back...the next coach will get credit for the turnaround and may be there a long time. You want to follow the guy that objectively failed

I remember days of yore with the Blitz Brothers; Zach Thomas, Shawn Banks and Robert Johnson...

Those Spike Dykes teams moved the ball, too, with Bam Morris among others.

Sigh. I miss a good pro set in Lubbock.

Sadly right now, both Baylor and Texas are in a hot mess right now, that both schools are toxic for any other coaches want to coach there anymore.

A crazy large amount of money is about to be spent firing coaches in Texas, and paying buyouts for Tom Herman and maybe Chad Morris.
